Received this this morning as an alternative to my expensive Thermapen which no longer seems to read accurately.My initial reaction was of some dismay as the build of the thermometer seems quite flimsy and certainly not as robust as the Thermapen. I was also concerned about the folding mechanism for the spike - in my quest for an alternative thermometer I had just received and sent back one of a different make (but which appeared to be very similar to this one) because the mechanism broke after the first use.HOWEVER, on testing the thermometer in boiling water it sat almost immediately at 100 deg C and never wavered.So I am thrilled with my purchase and will be very happy if the the case lives up to what is without doubt an excellent sensor. Time will tell. And hopefully my jams and marmalades will again set reliably.Failing that, I am relying on the lifetime guarantee ... but hoping I won't have to use it!A note for Thermaspike - improve the build quality to match the accuracy of the sensor. I for one would gladly pay more for something that is more robust.

The screen had been flashing and it finally packed in after three years of very occasional use. Magnet always stayed on the fridge instead of thermometer. Overall felt very flimsy and provided very little services.

It seems ok but early days. The thermometer reverts back to Fahrenheit sometimes when it's turned off. Boiling water registered fine, but my steak (should have been medium rare according to the temp was medium well).

Very neat gadget, works well, powers itself on automatically when the sensor needle is flipped out, and powers off when retracted.

great for checking if meats cooked

Gets to the correct temp almost instantly, only slight issue is that the needle is very stiff to get out. Have to use a knife or whatever to hand to open.

this is a really good product well worth the money

excellent. I can now cook meat and fish properly!! It arrived when I was told it would and packaging fine.
