A really great family dryrer
I have the ground spike cemented in and the pole when slotted into the spike and locked into position is very firm and steady.I thought it may be a little too high for my wife who is 5 ft 2 ins but not a problem. With the main pole wound down she is able to use it without stretching.Setting up the dryer for the first time took a little time, whilst I read and followed the instructions and got used to the mechanism. It only has to be set up once and then it is just getting used to the wind mechanism. Rasing the was a little stiff on first use but it has loosened a little to make using the dryer a doodleWhen putting it up for the first time you may need to untangle the lines. This is easy as each tier is a separate line NOT a continuos one.My wife and daughter state that it is a great family dryer and is very stable. They really like it. We have 6 adults and one 2 year old in our house. It spins very easily even with a full load.It does need space to spin if it has a large sheet duvet etc.For its size, ease of use and quality it is easily worth the extra one has to pay for this model. .The only down sides are: It can be a little tricky if taken out of its socket when put back due to its size whilst positioning the lugs into the recess in the ground spike. I have always been able to do it with out help but, I think that someone around the 5 ft mark may have difficulty balancing the pole whilst positioning the lugs especially on a windy day.Hills no longer make a cover for this particular pole and all their other covers are not big enough.I can certainly recommend this dryer.

An excellent drier, with one design fault
This rotary washing line is well made, and sturdy. OK, it's expensive, but provided it's installed properly gives good service. So the first comment is that it is vital that the socket is sunk into your lawn, bedded in concrete. The rotational force exerted on the base by about 50 kg of wet sheets, clothes etc is huge. If you can't install the socket yourself, get a builder to do it. IMHO the design fault lies in the locking pin (the red item in the picture), in my case, it fractured after a year, leaving a broken half in its retainer (see picture)I soon discovered that the drier is not manufactured by Hills, but by Freudenberg in Germany. My heart sank, however, I went to the Freudenberg website, emailed the contact address with pictures, and asked for a replacement locking pin, and a spare if possible. A couple of weeks passed, and two locking pins came through the letterbox! Sent from their household products division in Rochdale which is great service. Fitting the new locking pin is not for the faint hearted. I had to drill out the broken half. When the broken half is removed, you cannot fit the new pin by pushing it in manually, put the drier upright in its socket, put the pin in its retainer, and smartly bring the bottom and top together (picture shows bottom and top with broken pin)the pin will then snap into place as can be seen in the picture. Lastly, the lines on the drier are smaller in diameter than a conventional washing line in order to help the folding requirement, a bit of reasearch is needed on pegs!! I'm still very pleased with the product.

Unreliable product - non existent customer support
The product was fine when installed and for about three or four months. Since then the washing line has pulled out of the joint clips on four of the lines and cannot be reinstated. I’ve tried four times to get a response from the seller but they’re just ignoring my requests for help. Do not buy this product from them.

Well built
Had ours since 2015. Thought it was a lot of money but before was replacing every couple of years due to corrosion. Fantastic product, well built, is left up all year around and drys better than others when lifted up. Fits 2 big loads on.

Continued failure of joints of cable
I found that several of the black joiners had not been fixed correctly in that my wife was driven to distraction by these black joiners coming apart when her washing was on causing consternation. When refixing same I found that the curly piece of line had not been installed correctly thus allowing it to release. I was at the stage of sending the hoist back but eventually decided return was a real hassle and have since fixed the curly bits of line myself. This is the second Hills hoist I have had in many years and the first one had no problem until the green line started to break and I could not face the hassle of recabling same . All in all in all this one has given me no end of trouble least of all from my wife.

This is a good line but the hoist mechanism sometimes doesnt work as you have to rotate the line and try again to get it to elevate. The lines are feeble too - but easy to repair.

Excellent airer
A sturdy large capacity dryer. On the lowest level pegging up laundry is easy, even for the shorter ones amongst us, but then wind the handle up and it raises the airer significantly to catch any available wind. That's a real boon in small enclosed gardens when there isn't a lot of breeze. There are good hanger loops at the end of each arm which have never failed to keep the hanger secure, even in very windy conditions. This is quite expensive, but the benefits make it extremely worthwhile.

New Rotary Drier
Recently purchased this item but has taken me a while to find someone to put it up! So far it seems fine and being able to lift the clothes into the wind has been great as my neighbour has a lot of trees and the more they grew the less the wind reached my old line! Not sure if the winding mechanism is strong enough to withstand the use it will get (I am partially disabled, widowed and a pensioner so am not able to take it down every time I have finished with it) Also, living in Shetland will be a really good test - watch this space in five years time and I will give another updated opinion!
