Great scanner for the price!
So far I have scanned over 4,800 images and I have been very pleased with the quality of the scans. Not only does it scan multiple images at once, it will often put them in the right direction. And it will still scan an image correctly even if it isn't exactly straight. Sometimes an image may need to be rescanned, but I found this to be only sometimes and with certain images over others. The 4x6 seemed to have the most rescanned and even those were not that many.A few times the images on the scanner bed were scanned all as one image but that was very rare and I found switching to a different selection of images resolved the problem. This occasionally happened with black and white images. Swapping out one of the images for one of color always resolved the problem. The scanner software, despite what some reported, works great for scanning the images and for simple cropping. I really like that you can continue to scan images instead of sending them to your computer after each scan. It makes the process much faster. Additional photo editing would probably best be done in dedicated software.Despite the minor negatives I have mentioned, I still give it 5 stars because it honestly deserves it, in my opinion. No, it is not a professional scanner, but most of us do not need to scan our family photos in a professional scanner. The scans are clear and concise. Exactly what is needed. The scanner is super lightweight and easy to store. And very convenient since it only needs to be connected to your computer and not to a power source.I have had a lot of scanners over the years and honestly I was trying to avoid scanning all of my photos on a flatbed scanner, remembering how torturous it was to get the photo straight in the past. But I am so glad that I took the chance and made the purchase of this scanner.

Epson Perfection V39 II on Linux: A Great Scanner with a Small Catch
Operating the Epson Perfection V39 II flatbed scanner on Linux isn’t quite the plug-and-pray experience some folks might expect, but it’s not rocket science either. Seiko-Epson could have made it simpler, but once you know the trick, it’s smooth scanning. To get started, do a quick Gaggle search for “Linux Support for Epson Products epsonscan2.” Find the epsonscan2 package for your Linux distro and download it. From there, it’s standard Linux fare—extract the package, click to install the drivers and plug-ins, and you’re good to go. No messing around with config files or weird workarounds. It just works. The toughest part? Tracking down the drivers. Took me about five minutes once I found them, and everything worked a treat with both Epson’s software and SANE.What surprised me most is how this little guy runs off just USB power from a standard computer port—no bulky power adapter needed. That’s impressive! The scan quality is top-notch for a consumer-grade scanner in this price range. You can save your scans as PDF or JPEG for everyday use, or go with pro formats like PNG and TIFF at 4800 DPI. Honestly, you’d be hard-pressed to spot any difference in image quality between this gem and scanners costing ten times as much. For Linux users willing to hunt down the driver, the Epson Perfection V39 II is a very good deal. And a note to Epson - Please make it easier for customers to find the Linux drivers. They should be on the same page with Mac and Microsoft.

Great Scanner, but short cord....
Needed a basic scanner for one of the office work stations, mostly for scanning the occasional document for emailing.Super easy set up, came with a CD to load up the software. Can operate it from the scanner itself with the push of a button, or pull up the ESPON Scan program and launch from there. Scans to PDF, scans into a basic editing program for photos and has both auto and manual functions. We didn't need to mess around with any of that, and were glad for the simplicity of plug and play -- loaded the software, connected the scanner, and were instantly able to scan documents as needed. As others mentioned, very lightweight, if one needed it to be portable for some reason, plus is USB powered, which is handy.Only problem we had is that the cord it comes with (USB to Micro USB port on the scanner itself) was only 5 feet long, and that didn't work for the particular work station area, where the PC tower was located under the desk, and the best place available for the scanner, on the desk top, put it more than 5 feet away. EPSON was pretty useless at recommending anything longer, and we learned the hard way that not just any USB to Micro USB cord would do the job.A bit of trial and error on ordering a longer, replacement cord, finally yielded this product:Mediabridge USB 2.0 - Micro-USB to USB Cable (10 Feet) - High-Speed A Male to Micro B - (Part# 30-004-10A )This ten foot replacement cord worked perfectly. Other cords would only power the unit, but would not transmit data, but this cord, as a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 cord, capable of data sync at 480 Mbps, is what we needed. And, for about six dollars, it was a super affordable fix for the short cord problem we had.Terrific scanner, does exactly what we needed it to, very happy!UPDATE: Mediabridge cord quit working with the scanner. Not the fault of the cord itself, just this scanner doesn't seem to like any other cord other than what Epson sent with it, so there must be some proprietary element to the cord itself, I don't know. Anyway, switched back to the Epson cord, and have to keep the scanner on top of the PC tower, since the Espon cord is too short to have the scanner on the desk top (PC tower is under the desk) but scanner still works great. Just wish it came with a longer cord, or wish Epson was any help at sourcing a longer cord that would work.Knocked off one star (from five down to four) because Epson customer service was useless at trying to solve the short cord issue and their recommendation of any Hi Speed cable clearly is not accurate, since the Hi Speed one we bought is now not liked by the scanner, after only a day of use. Cord itself tests fine, so it's something with the scanner, on what cord will work with it. So, be advised it only has a 5 foot cord, and finding a longer one seems a fruitless effort.
