Q: Can you just wear head band and no ear plugs? Like will it keep water out or you have wear both?

We only used it with earplugs in the pool so I am not sure

I have a son who also swims competitively and needs to keep eardrum dry after recent surgery. Can you tell me what worked best? He has custom ear plugs and silicone cap pulls out plugs. Wondering if ULTRA band it worn over plugs is enough OR he needs to wear plugs, ULTRA band it and then cap.
