Q: How long do battery's last

Well, possibly not very long. Since I installed & wrote the review, it's stopped working. Some weeks back I wasn't getting a signal at all, but it coincided with home wireless being setup in the line-of-sight to the receiver, so I assumed that was causing interference. The transmitter was still working -- blue LED came on etc. when gate opened. However, I noticed the other day the LED's not coming on any more. There are two likely outcomes here: water death or battery fail. Given how little current LEDs require, and unless the device cuts out entirely, I'd expect that to come on even with weakened transmission. However, Ireland has been gloriously wet of late and I don't doubt the poor thing might have drowned in the meantime. I have yet to conduct a post-mortem. It's possible that the battery failed because it had been on the shelf a long time before it reached me, thus the device itself might still be a good buy. I just don't know that at this point in time. Overall I still think this is a nice bit of kit, but I think you have to know exactly what you want from it and how you're going to achieve that.
