I've been trying to find a used one like this, but after reading reviews I'm not so sure... is this not capable of printing even small plates?

This is a small machine for printing small plates. Some of the reviews show that users are not familiar with pressing machines. Printing needs experience. Since this is a small machine, one should not expect too much.

Is this at least as good as using a pasta maker as a press?

My son is an art major in college. He bought and uses this press and is very happy with it. He successfully makes prints and sells them at shows.
