Commercial/Residential Grade Door Closer – Aluminum Heavy Duty 3 Spring Hydraulic Automatic Closer – Adjustable Speed, Surface Mount - Parallel Arm Bracket Included

I installed this closer on a Larson aluminum clad storm door that has two windows and the screen. I wanted a door closer that actually controlled the closing speed, and the latching speed - this closer does both. I also wanted a closer I could mount on the inside of the storm door - I had a 2.5in. space between the main door and the storm door, so I needed a closer that would fit in a tight space and still work. The closer description doesn't show the dimension of it's width - which is 1.5in. The closer arm still needed to both operate and fit in the tight 2.5in. space - which it did. Yes, I could have mounted it on the outside of the storm door, but I didn't want that aesthetic - and this unit didn't come in white, which I changed with a can of spray paint. In order to fit in the 2.5in. space, I needed to modify the control arm mounting bracket - which I did as well. In the end, it was totally worth it - no more bouncing or slamming - a quiet and controlled close every time.

My wife was on my case about letting the garage door slam while the baby is sleeping, but I just couldn't seem to shake the habit of walking right through and letting the spring hinge do its thing. So... I bought this. I was able to easily install it, with the provided instructions, and adjust it perfectly with a little help from a youtube video from "Technology Connections" on the subject. It is high quality, and looks very nice, but also performs well as it closes the door firmly, but also quietly.

Well, update to this review: Installation as other mentioned was tricky for me because im doing Push out style in this case the motor needs to be inverted it shows this in the diagram but doesnt explain it you need to review the 1 page guide very carefully before you drill holes like i did. Second I must have over adjusted the device as oil leaked everywhere, upon contacting the seller you can only rotate those screws 1/4 turn. This wasnt mentioned on the manual. I must admit contacting the seller was easy and they gave me a full refund. Since i have already pre drilled holes in a brand new aluminum door, i will be ordering it again and giving it another try. The device appears well made. Update: device works fine but it's hard to Push the door open. Kids can barely open the door, seems like overkill for a residential door, I replaced it with a Ryobi doorman and works much better in my op.

This seems to be a quality product that works well on a large, solid wood door. The frustration is the lack of adequate instruction for installation. The instructions include a door template (very useful) but the actual installation procedure is outlined in three small illustrations with no text. When nearing completion, the two parts of the swing arm appeared to be too short to connect. After much irritation, it appears that you need to crank and hold the spring and swing arm out of parallel alignment with the door while you attach the pieces of the swing arm. This is contrary to the image in the instructions. Works great now, but a YouTube video would have been very helpful.

Top quality. This is a well designed device. It performs well and is not too difficult to install. Well worth the cost.

No instructions. Like an idiot, I morticed into the door jamb on the wrong side of the door. After flipping it and feeling useless, it does work well. A little too well, kids have a hard time opening the door and complain about it. I've adjusted it 20 times but can't figure out why it loads so heavily in closed position and difficult to push open from fully closed. If it wasn't for these things it would be great.

Strong. Works great for security steel door that we struggled to find a closer.

I really don't write reviews but this is very useful addition to my Door, it is a reliable and functional product that delivers on its promises. Its smooth closing mechanism, durability, and safety features make it a worthy investment for anyone looking to improve their door's functionality. Bought the product because it was nicer looking than other products of the same type despite warnings in the reviews about possible installation flaws. No problem installing it on my end and works as it should. I had to cut a little of the trim above my door so to make the surface flat above the door, but that is the only challenge I encountered so far.
