Can I add this on top of my existing switch since it is flat, so I avoid removing the current switch, please?

No you can't, you have to remove the original top cover and install this. It's really simple to do. Don't understand why you would want to install this on top of another switch. You wouldn't be able to do this anyway because of the components that are part of this switch. Just take the two screws out, take the wires out, put them into the new switch and your finished.
