Great lens
This lens is pricey but I'm really liking it so far. It allows better shots in all sorts of light conditions but especially in the early morning or dusk hours. I'm not a pro by any stretch but the results I get make me feel like one...almost.

Great quality but a bit heavy
The lense is great. It is quite heavy. So, if you can save a little more money go for the updated version.

An incredible lens, if you can afford it.
This lens is amazing. The sharpness is the best in the game. The price is high, yes, but if you can afford it, it is well worth the cost.

Instant upgrade to images
This lens is absolutely amazing. The compression and bokeh it has to offer is unprecedented. This is a must have for any portrait photographer. It's also a workhorse for concert photography. I will never not own a lens like this again.

An Outstanding Improvement!
My first generation Sony 70-200 GM was my workhorse for many different kinds of photography for several years. I converted from Canon to Sony about six years ago, and used to rely similarly on the venerable Canon 70-200 L. I was delighted and impressed by the better performance of the Sony 70-200 after changing brands, and couldn't imagine things getting much better. I was accordingly reluctant when Sony announced the 70-200 GM II--I didn't think the marginal improvement possible could be worth the investment. The DXO ratings on the new 70-200 II eventually convinced me to take the plunge, and wow! I was surprised by the significant step-up in quality from the first time I used the new lens. I am mostly a sports shooter these days. I am routinely stunned by the increased resolution and focal accuracy of the new 70-200 II. The reduced weight, manual f-stop control, and additional IS controls are certainly niceties, but it's image quality and reliability that's critical to me. The new lens delivers, over and over again. I can routinely see individual eye-lashes and hairs on moving athletes captured at 200mm and 1/1000 across a gym or indoor arena, and images at ISO 4000+ have little or very manageable noise. I'm convinced the new II lens on a Sony A-1 becomes The Best Sports Camera In the World and have many images to prove it. And, of course, the combination does a great job with portraiture as well. Despite the expense, I'm very glad I stepped up from the I to the II. It is a significant and outstanding improvement.

Almost TOO good.
I wish I had upgraded a long time ago.

Sorely Disappointed in the Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM II; Love My Other GM Lenses …
I am blown away by the incredible sharpness of this “Sony 16-35mm F2.8 GM” lens! I originally bought Sony’s 24-105 F4 G lens as my all purpose go-to lens. And, I can’t complain about its utility or function. However, a number of landscape photographers recommended the 16-35 GM lens as one everyone should consider. I put it on my Amazon wishlist and watched and waited. An incredible “like new” deal in the warehouse pushed me over the edge and I ordered the lens. What an amazing lens! The few test shots I took and compared to those taken of the same scene with my other lens are so much sharper that it makes me think I should use this one exclusively.Yes, this is an expensive lens, but worth every penny whether you are a professional or just a hobbyist as I am.UPDATE: Sony 24 - 70mm F2.8 GM is fabulous, too. I now use it for my go-to lens and for most photos with the exception of distance shots. This lens has the same degree of sharpness and color accuracy as the 16-35mm. You will not be disappointed.UPDATE #2: I wanted a lens with longer focal lengths and have been so pleased with the two G Master lenses I purchased from Amazon that I jumped when I saw they had the Sony 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II available. Unfortunately, I was hugely disappointed with its performance on my Sony a7R IVa camera. The autofocus was sluggish at best. With the exception of the longest focal length, the corners of the photos were blurred and the color, even at F8 and higher was not realistic. Trees are not celery green. I double checked to determine whether it was my camera, but color on my other lenses was realistic and looked like the real subjects. Specs show this lens can take sharp photos as close as 18", but I found this applicable only at the 70mm focal length; other focal lengths required a 36" distance to produce sharp photos. There were no instructions or information in English included in the lens I got. Because I purchased from a Sony authorized seller, I assume the lens I received would be one authorized for the US and would contain English instructions. The one positive is that the photos I took of flowers at F2.8 had a beautiful bokah effect. Perhaps I received a defective lens, but I am not willing to keep this one and returned it to Amazon.UPDATE #3 - Tried my second Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 G Master II which I purchased directly from Sony. This one was worse than the first. There were a number of large, black spots on all the photos. I double checked by putting another lens on the camera and there were no spots. Even on f/16, colors were desaturated and there were areas where the photos were “blown out”. I will be returning this lens to Sony and will be reluctant to try another of this model.

Insanely great lens!!!
I have been looking for a long telephoto for months and tested virtually every other lens for Sony e-mount including the original version of this lens (not so good) with my A7R IVA. Every single one had an unacceptably high rate of out of focus and soft focus shots under many conditions.Up to this point I had resisted buying this lens because of the price. Finally after exhausting virtually all other cheaper possibilities I spent the money!I am happy to report it was the best money I have ever spent! This lens is beyond good it is insanely good and the best lens I have ever used in nearly every category. I went from an estimated 30% keeper rate with most other lenses to a 95% keeper rate with this lens! The auto focus accuracy, sharpness, and picture quality are off the charts and my customers have been astounded by the quality!I cannot say enough about this lens coupled with the A7R IVA. It is mind blowingly good both for portrait and sports coverage and produces spectacular results with the right body!I should mention it destroys the cheaper shorter range 70-180mm from a competing manufacturer. Also be careful listening to biased influencers that profit financially or from receiving early access to new products. They may claim "the video is not sponsored" but receiving early (often pre-production) access to hot new products can also benefit them in terms of video views. What do you think happens to the early access a manufacturer gives them if their last product review was negative?Bottom line is I do not write many glowing reviews but after spending a few weeks doing shoots with this lens I could not be happier!

Una Lama
Le lenti Sony Sono una lama in fatto di nitidezza, per non parlare del suo autofocus, una scheggia.Lente che vale tutto il suo costo.

Best AF, ultra sharp
The media could not be loaded. This is the best 70-200mm/2.8 across all brands today, especially for it's light weight, sharpness, the best autofocus, parfocal, internal zoom and focus. Attached some photos took at Toronto Zoo last weekend.

Best zoom lens ever
This lens is ridiculously sharp. Even if you use a 2x teleconverter to give you 400mm, photos are still sharp. It’s really expensive though but the value and the thought of using this for a long period of time, it’s worth it.

Best Sony Lens but watch for purple fringing
Added photos and comments March 15: the weight feels quality! Not a burden. superb colour, striking resolution, balanced light and dark areas. It is perfect all around, if you have only one lens to go, this is it! Purple never comes back... why???Added comments March 11, 2021 - It has been 6 months with this lens. I have found more issues with it. Purple fringing is quite obvious and it cannot be corrected. It often happens when there is a big light contrast. But it could happen in the evening low light and the entire frame is clouded with purple. They cannot be corrected. After all, it is not a bad lens and is one of the most balanced high quality original. If I have to compare it (unfairly) against my Summilux 35mm, LOL - I would want to just throw this one in the bag.I bought this lens to match my new A7R4. It is a perfect match and the most versatile. On the heavy side. But it feels very substantial and solid made. It covers city and landscape shooting, and meets 90% of the needs. If I bring just one lens on my camera and take a drive around town or nearby cities, it is this lens. If I have the appetite to carry more lenses, there will be lots of choices but they all come after this lens! Sigma 24-70? A good replacement, mostly for its price! Nothing can beat this 24-70 f/2.8 G Master!
