Intel Core i5 4670 Quad Core Retail CPU (Socket 1150, 3.40GHz, 6MB, Haswell, 84W, Intel Graphics, BX80646I54670, 4th Generation Intel Core, Turbo Boost Technology 2.0)

Chose this in Nov 2013 £165, and fitted up the system in early 2014. Has been in use for over a year now, with win8.1. and 16GB ram/Z97 mobo ; with solidstate drive it makes for a reliable, fast system, well capable of multitasking, without the overclocking: I selected this for its virtualisation parameter capability although unfortunately have not got around to making use of that aspect, as yet. It runs as a quiet pc, ramping up to a low hum when pushed. I ditched the stock cooler for another air cool with better performance. I ought to check my temps again! I agree with others that an i7 isn't necessarily the best, although I'd suggest research carefully, depending on your budget and requirements, and view of your systems upgrade path/longevity. And if tempted by the i7, would you rather put an extra £100 into a processor, or motherboard and accessories, or keep for the next time?

I've only been running this for a few days and so far it's running very well. The case runs quiet with only stock cooling and having the heat-sink come with thermal paste already applied ensures there is one less thing to worry about when putting it together.I just had one problem when trying to install this. Initially, the computer wouldn't boot and as it turns out this was due to the stock heat-sink not being attached to the motherboard correctly. The correct way to install it (since the instructions aren't overly clear) is to just press down on the connectors - not twist them. The arrows on the connectors are to indicate how to release the heat-sink as opposed to securing it.This is a fairly no0b mistake to make but I thought I would share it in case anyone else had the same problem.

Having bought a used version of this product I was certainly not disappointed... The CPU looked like new, and once installed was running at a steady 26-30 degrees low temp. using the Freezer Pro Fan Cooler. Performance wise this CPU is definitely no slouch either. You can run pretty much anything without overclocking. When purchasing this I also bought the MSI GTX 1050i Graphics Card and with 16 GB of RAM this combination of products installed on an old socket 1150 MOBO makes a pretty competitive rival for the latest more expensive PC's. Definitely recommend.

I bought this when I was building my new computer. My old computer had an old AMD Athlon 5000+ so this was quite an upgrade. At first I wanted an i7 but did a lot of research and figured I probably wouldn't need one. My computer is really only used for desktop/graphics stuff so I didn't need a high-end processor. I also wasn't interested in overclocking so got this processor instead of the 4670k. The processor and heatsink were easy to install, especially for someone like me who has never put a computer together before. The fan is very quiet. The computer runs great. The chip comes with 4600 hd graphics. I don't presently have a graphics card so I'm using the integrated graphics. The chip does run older games fine generally but don't expect to play newer games. In retrospect, I wish I'd have researched AMD's processors a bit more as you can get a decent AMD chip for half the price of an i5. But I did want an intel chip this time around so I opted for this.

Top performance for a very good price. At first the idle temperature was around 60°C which was quite high but then I realised that was due to my stock cooler not being on properly. Now the idle temperature is around 30°C which could not be better. Would definitely recommend!

Does exactly what it says on the tin. A reliable, fast processor if you are not interested in overclocking for ultimate performance.

If you are thinking of getting an i7 then the performance boost won't be noticeable unless you're livestreaming/recording at the same time. Better revisions of i5 also don't offer that much performance improvement for their price mark up as well. So if you want a CPU that will play all games at max settings and at a silky smooth frame rate and don't care about overclocking then look no further.
