This is good quality with a smooth finish. I made an insulated insert for a house for feral cats and it worked well.

Versatile and endlessly useful, I used these to mount a finished piece of embroidery with pins to help stretch out the hoop marks, as well as several completed diamond paintings. Each board is thick and sturdy, and is even tolerant of stapling things into the board directly. For items larger than a single board, I found that joining two boards using coffee stirrers was fairly easy (sort of like woodworking biscuits) - because the boards are so thick, you have a fairly large margin for error before poking through the sides while pushing the sticks down into the sides of each board, and even then you can try again without compromising the structural integrity of the board itself. The end result is fairly sturdy on its own, but reinforcing with packing tape makes the joined boards really solid.

Polystyrene is the generic version of Styrofoam, which can be purchased at building centers and lumber yards in 4’ x 8’ sheets for about what the DNB Craft Foam Boards cost. However, the convenience of the pre-cut sheets may be worth the extra cost if you don’t need a lot of it.

I got these because I crocheted my cats their own little couch. These were cut with a hot knife and used inside of the arms and for the bottom part that sets in the floor. They cut real easy with the hot knife which is designed for cutting this type of foam. If you intend to cut it I highly recommend using heat when you do to seal the ends nicely as you cut. They are lightweight yet durable. They have provided a good sturdy arm for the cats couch as well. If you love to do crafts like myself you can always find a use for them.

I use the foam boards by taping them together and then auditioning my fabric blocks to place them before sewing them together. I use pins to hold the fabric where it needs to be. This allows me to change them in any direction and take a picture to look for the best overall design before I sew them together. The foam boards are so light that I can move them to any area of my apartment and rest them on the floor, and they do not fall apart.
