how long can it safely be left on?

I've had mine on for 6 hours and it's been fine, I've never left it on and gone out, I dont leave anything on and go out not just that

How fragile are these? Would it shatter or crack if my son knocked it whilst chucking stuff around as he does?

Mine is pretty sturdy, I've had a couple of incidents with it nearly falling over - it did once, however didn't break or crack. I think when he saw it on and working, he'd like it that much that he'd be super careful around it anyway :-)

Is it normal for the main body to have some wiggle room around? It doesn’t seem to fit in snugly or click with the base or the top bit

No it's not normal if the bottle has been placed in the base with the metal cap at the top, if the bottle is placed upside down then the bottle is resting on the bulb and will wobble.
