Apparently has a short design life
This product did what it needed to do, and then died after 26 months' use. Given that (in the UK at least) electronic devices that fail within 24 months are presumed to be "not of merchantable quality", then it is reasonable to assume that this device was designed to a pretty basic minimum standard.
