The Electric Blues Box Slide Guitar Kit: with Guitar, Instruction Book and DVD

Nice little instrument for $32!
"Some assembly" means putting on the bridge and nut (2 threaded bolts) in the correct locations, fitting 6 little "ferrules" in the saddle, and stringing 3 standard guitar strings in the correct order. After that (15 min. maybe) and letting the strings stretch a bit, you're pretty much good to go. I'm a finger picker, so using the slide was new to me, but after lessons #1 and 2, I got the hang of it. It's the old 1-4-5 progression that most of us are familiar with, and indeed which governs nearly 90% of Western music. "Three chords and the truth" can be definitely handled on this box. Hunt a bit and you can find other notes and chords up the neck toward the box.I tried it with a small amp I've got and although I need to work on my slide technique, it sounds fine and captures that old southern delta blues sound. I'd love to hear it with some fuzz to give it a grittier sound, but might need to look for a small amp designed for that.Being in a fixed open-G chord, the sound can get pretty monotonous after a while, so you wouldn't want this to be your primary instrument if you're playing for a crowd or in a jam. But I plan to have it on hand at such times and drag it out a couple of times for some blues in G. Too bad there is no way to capo the neck, although I suppose I could tune down one full step and be in open F if I wanted.Initial overall impression, it's a lot of sound in a tiny box, and if you have a friend who plays bass and one on rhythm guitar, you might just have a nice ensemble for some bluesy sounds.... but like I said, don't make it your sole instrument, 'cuz after a little while it will become monotonous.EDIT: I also found I can play in the key of C by starting on the 5th "fret" and then the 10th and 12th "fret." If you're steeped in music theory, you can probably find other keys, I just haven't tracked them down yet. I say "fret" in quotes because there are no ACTUAL frets, just printed/painted lines to indicate where the frets would be. The strings are way too high to actually fret the strings anyway, as you get all the sound from using the slide. Now playing in C major is possible (maybe other keys too), but you will lose a bit of the Lesson 1 slide capabilities unless you get really good at using the slide. OK, I think that's about it after having the box for a week now. I played it in front of others last night, two blues songs I like to do in among other tunes I did on standard guitar and banjo, and got a lot of positive comments.

Amazing guitar for the money
I love this thing. Buy some decent strings to put on it and it really sounds great, even acoustic. Incredible instrument for $25. Great for a beginner and great for an experienced player wanting to learn slide or practice their slide technique on a fretless neck. I’m very impressed

Don't waste your money
Junk. Total junk. Chords will slip out of tune.Box is made of very cheap cardboard. It's only goods for some parts. It says a slide comes with it....nope! You get what you pay for folks.

This is a perfect low cost way to get into cigar box guitar ...
This is a perfect low cost way to get into cigar box guitar or even slide guitar and your not sure if you'll like it. It has a maple neck with a cardboard body but don't let the cardboard stop you from getting this because it sounds rather good and if you have the skills and talent you could upgrade the body with a real cigar box but why. It sounds and plays great. There is some assembly, put the strings and bridges on, tune it up and enjoy. It even has a 1\4inch jack so you can plug it into a amp. I've had it for a week and can't put it down.

At this price, what a blast!
Very cool and usable. As a lifelong guitarist, I think this thing is amazing for the price. You will want new strings - I recommend flat-wound for a smooth, non-scratchy sound. The little slide that comes with it is good enough to use, but you might want to get a better slide down the road for another 10 bucks or so. The output jack works great and is quiet - I plug this in to my Honeytone Mini-Amp when jamming with friends and wow, what a blast! I recommend tuning to Open G for best results.

Great little CBG
This is a great CBG. Sounds great and can be played with an amp. I have spent hours and hours playing this thing and it is still like new. Some would say its a toy. They would be wrong. You will be surprised how well it is made and how good it sounds. I can't even come close to making one for the price. In fact I may buy another to use with an old cigar box I got at a flea market.

Learning tool
For being mostly cardboard, it sounds not bad.

So easy to play!
I wanted to try a Cigar box guitar because I had heard that they sound so good. Well they sure do! This one was so easy to assemble and start playing almost "Right out of the box" Looks quite good. Plug it into a Guitar amplifier and you won't believe the sound you can get out of this! I would recommend this for anyone who is interested in learning to play a Cigar box type guitar.
