Great pillow for those who solid support.
I can and have suffered from some horrible bouts of night sweats. I had a vinyl mattress cover in the past and have woken up in literal pools of my own sweat. Having recently moved and found myself in need of new bedding, I decided to take matters into my own hands and try my best to buy bedding material that would help keep me cool and dry. After doing some research on the internet I discovered that organic fibers, derived from living matter, do a much better job of wicking away moisture than synthetic fibers. The reason for this is that organic fibers are not perfect, the fibers have nooks and crannies where liquid can attach itself to. Also, organic fibers tend to be much larger than synthetic fibers and this allows for more airflow, which in turn allows for more cooling. This is where the buckwheat pillow enters the picture. This pillow uses the hulls of buckwheat as it's filler. These hulls create plenty of space for air to circulate and flow through them, which should help with removing body heat. Which is exactly what I was looking for, considering that my head is always exposed to the elements, I planned to use it as a giant heat sink in hopes of eliminating my night sweats (one possible cause for them could be my body's inability to regulate my body temperature during sleep). This buckwheat pillow does its job perfectly. I have yet to wake up feeling overly warm, though it could be due to all of my bedding and not just the pillow... So as far as cooling goes, I can't give you an accurate description except to say I no longer wake up drenched in sweat. As far as comfortability goes, I love it. Now this isn't your typical pillow and it doesn't feel like your typical pillow. It is incredibly firm. Yes there is give and it is still comfortable, but if there was ever a spectrum for pillow softness down feathers would be on one side of it, and buckwheat hulls would be on the other. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, but I am happy with the product. The buckwheat filling is great for my sleeping style, side sleeper, as it does adjust to the contours of my head without giving up too much in terms of firmness. Also, the amount of filling is just right in my opinion, as that was another concern when buying any pillow. I hate when manufactures skimp out on the filling to save a few bucks, I have often used two pillows stacked to make one comfortable pillow, and was afraid I may need to purchase more buckwheat hulls for filling. Not only was I afraid of needing to add extra buckwheat hulls, but I had no clue how much buckwheat I should buy. Luckily I didn't need to buy extra filling as the manufacturers know what they are doing and do an excellent job at making an excellent product. If you are tired from all those little jabs from down feathers or from the heat that is associated with memory foam pillows, I say take a gander with this buckwheat pillow. I don't plan on ever not owning one.

Try a Buckwheat Pillow for cool refreshing sleep
The item met my expectations for quality and usability. The cotton cover makes the pillow a pleasure to sleep on, and the fill is just right for adjusting to my personal needs. I've sworn by buckwheat pillows for years.

I can't believe I love my pillow
I love this pillow. I don't usually grow animated about objects that I own, but this pillow has made my life so much better that I can't help mentioning it whenever there's even the slightest chance to sing its praises. I got the queen sized, and to me it's the perfect size for a single person. This is my first buckwheat hull pillow, and I took a chance based on reviews to see whether it would help me with recurring neck pain from sleeping at a wrong angle. I've used this pillow for over a year, and I'm happy to say that since I've had it nearly all my neck pain has disappeared. I've quickly learned to love the feel of sleeping on this pillow and I look forward to the moment when I lay my head down to sleep each night. That's a weird thing to say and sounds like a product advertisement, but it isn't--we all have objects that are our "favorites" for certain reasons and give us a certain sense of satisfaction, and this is definitely one of those things for me. There are no cons for me with this pillow, but there are a few things to be aware of that make sleeping on a buckwheat pillow a different experience than foam/feather pillows. I will list those below: PROS: - Buckwheat hulls support my head and neck no matter what position I sleep in. They shift into position once I rest weight on them, but push against each other and the pillow case to create a support system that is flexible but solid. - Hulls diffuse pressure while allowing air to flow. A lot of times I like to sleep on my side or stomach with one arm under my head. With my buckwheat pillow, I can slide my arm between the pillow and my head, and the hulls will naturally move to make space for my arm while still keeping enough support underneath and to the sides. My arm doesn't feel pinched or numb all through the night, and doesn't get hot. - Moldable. Since the hulls can move freely, it's easy to move them around into a particular shape. When I want a bit more support in one area, or if I just want to mash my face into the pillow without suffocating, I can move the hulls around (or they do it on their own) to make it happen. - Allergen free. I have bad allergies, so it was a huge plus that I didn't have to be as concerned about that with this type of pillow. I'm also using an anti-allergen inner pillowcase, here: http://amzn.com/B002R0DR3S - Smell and feel. There's no getting around that this type of pillow is different than any other type you may have experienced. It's full of seed hulls, so it smells faintly of grain. However, I really enjoy the smell, and I never notice it anymore except when bury my face in the pillow. It's also a unique texture--like a bean bag, but with more solidity. - Cost: This particular product was one of the cheapest buckwheat pillows out there, and I'm completely satisfied with it. Definitely a good buy. THINGS TO BE AWARE OF: - Texture. This isn't foam or feathers, and your head won't sink down into it like with traditional pillows (at least not immediately). It is firm, and you may think on your first night using it, "I'm sleeping with my head on a sandbag." However, after a few minutes the hulls separate and move to allow your weight to sink into it just the right amount. For me, it's the perfect equilibrium--having my head perfectly supported makes it FEEL soft, since traditionally we want softer pillows so that they relieve the tension in our heads and necks. Also, the surface texture of the pillow isn't harsh or pointy, and there's nothing sticking through the casing like with down pillows. I'm perfectly happy snuggling up to it with my face against the pillowcase. - Refilling. Over time, the hulls wear against each other and become smaller. This makes the pillow feel fluffier and more airy, but makes it less firm overall. I'm probably going to buy a bag of additional buckwheat hulls soon so that I can top it off and make it feel exactly how I want. However, hulls are cheap, and the ability to add or remove hulls at any point to customize your pillow is a big plus. - Discoloration. The original pillowcase that this comes in has become brown in the center of the fabric due to the hulls rubbing up against it. However, I use this pillow with a second inner pillowcase on top of it, and none of the discoloration has transferred to the white fabric of the second pillowcase or to my outer pillowcase. - Flat. If you're using this as your only pillow like I am, it may leave you feeling not as propped up as you're used to, especially while sleeping on your side. However, it's still perfectly comfortable. I'm not sure how well this pillow would work in conjunction with other pillows.

Great pillow, takes some getting used to but worth it
I gave it 4 stars because when I first received it, my girlfriend slept with it and her neck hurt the next morning. I don't think she "fluffed it" correctly prior to putting her head down for the night. I also want to give a couple of months to update my review down the line. As for me, I've been using it for several weeks now and I love it ! It takes some getting used to because it is different from what I'm used to but it's growing on me now. The pillow is hard but soft at the same time. What I mean is that if you slam your head down onto it, it's not too pleasant. On that note I don't recommend any pillow fights using this! But if you place your head down normally, the feeling is like laying on the sand at the beach, comfortable but firm. I've never had better a nights sleep using regular pillows, but with this one it seems I'm always in a deep sleep, having dreams and all. My secret to prepping it is to push all sides of the pillow prior to sleeping. I push the buckwheat towards the center of the pillow making it fluffy. Then I lay my head down and move side to side to "dig" a hole where my head will rest during the night. As for the noise complaints reviewers give, I don't get it because yes if you move its sort of a crunching noise like eating cereal but nothing that would wake me up or keep me from going back to sleep. In conclusion, ever since I've used this pillow, it seems I wake up with a "refreshed" feeling in my neck and shoulders. Almost feels like I got a neck massage, which for me is very noticeable every morning.

This is a replacement for my old buckwheat pillow so I'm familiar with this type of pillow and this one is great. My one concern was that the description does not say whether or not the pillow cover is cotton. According to the attached tag it is. Very good news. There's plenty of buckwheat in the pillow making it quite hard but because there's a zipper opening, scooping some out some of the buckwheat and saving it for a later refill is not a problem. In other words; *one can easily customize comfort*. Very happy with this purchase. I would not hesitate in buying this again.

This pillow has surprised me. I used to fall asleep and wake up with neck pain every day. I couldn't find any comfort unless I was on my back which for me means a bad sleep due to sleep apnea. This pillow is not soft or very comfortable, but it's very effective! I'm able to get the perfect height and wake up without neck pain. Best pillow I have ever used. Using a padded pillow cover helps with the comfort.

I'm really happy with this pillow. Someone said that they expected more filling, but if anything I think there's too much. Someone else said that there were bugs in theirs. No sign of that in mine, but it's worth checking before you use it. It's only been about a week or so, but I would say that my neck is much less stiff now than it was before I switched to this pillow. I'll take it.
