What material are the bags made from? "Yarn" is not informative. are they nylon, cotton, or something else?

It’s not cotton for sure. It looks like to be nylon or some kind of plastic material.

Will these work for pomegranates?

I would say that the 6x8 size will be a bit small. I don't think they'll be large enough by time the pomegranate fruit matures to full size. Some pomegranates can get quite large. I would go with the 8x12 for pomegranates. I used the 6x8 for strawberries. One thing that I noticed, is that the green bags affected the light coming through, so the fruit didn't color properly. I was going to try the white bags next year.
