Good for Hobby/Light Work
The only welding training I have had was several decades ago and I only had practice with torch brazing. After a few practice welds and playing with the voltage/current settings, my welds turned out very good. The worst feature of this unit is the poorly written User Manual as there is no suggested current/voltage chart or any other useful tips for novices.

Good light to mid duty welder
Good little welder, really small so it doesn't take up space in my shop and moves around easy.Easy to setup and use.I have used it for several little projects right away and it has been great, I have used it for 1/16" galvanized pipe to butt welding 1/2" mild steel plate, and after getting the settings figured out and dialed in it has been great.I have used the mig and 6011 stick and it has been great both ways.I am in construction and would definitely not be using this on the job site, as it is somewhat flimsy and I would probably overload it within 5 minutes, but great for small projects at home.Definitely would recommend for light to mid duty users.

It works!
I especially liked the $189.00 price point of this little welder. The $50. off coupon from Amazon was a real bonus! My out of pocket cost was only $139.00 (not including tax and shipping). Before the machine arrived, I was skeptical about how it would perform. I used this welder this evening for about 2 hours in the flux core mode with .030 Vulcan Wire. I only have 110V to my garage receptacles and the dual voltage capability was also a selling feature. The machine performed great! I have not used the MMA function yet. Just a few cons to note: Like many of the reviews already written on these imported little welders, the Users Manual is poorly written. Way to much content on precautions and trouble-shooting and not enough on the operation of the machine. Again, it makes me question it's longevity. I am a novice and I would have appreciated some more content on recommended Voltage and Current settings vs. material thickness. The Current knob controls both the wire feed speed and amperage. There is no separate wire feed speed knob. The product description on Amazon boasts an "industry leading warranty" but it failed to provide just how long the warranty is valid. The machine did come with a small card indicating the warranty period is 1 year. However, there is no product registration information. Despite these few cons, I remain optimistically satisfied with this Forton Welder and look forward to using the stick (MMA) function.
