I started wood carving a year or so back, and always seem to struggle in what to carve next. This kit takes that away and it comes with everything you need: two blocks of wood, a knife, which I was really impressed with as it came “scary sharp” out of the box, also the pattern template for the bird shape, a roll of finger tape, to stop those little annoying ‘nicks’ (also a couple of plasters, which I thought was a nice amusing touch), sandpaper and a pot of beeswax to finish it of. To keep your knife sharp there was a strop and some polishing compound, which was brilliant if you are just starting. This will make an excellent present for someone as it will give them a chance to try out wood carving, giving them everything they need, from knife and wood, through to sharpening. With the instructions easy to follow, this really is a perfect little kit. I can wait to start carving my bird!

This project was exactly what my son needed, to be hands on and take his mind off stresses n strains in life. He found it most therapeutic and thoroughly rewarding. Has now started looking at carving other things from the wood he finds on his walks in the local woods.

I had great fun with this kit and even carved myself a nice little bear! Perfect for beginners. I will say that I wish there was more guidance on knife sharpening as the instructions were lacking. However, after going on youtube for guidance, I realised the kit had everything I needed as a beginner.

Fantastic kit. Everything you need included - I hadn’t realised so much would be in it. So can be used as a starter or a compliment kit. Blade is sharp from the outset. Loving this and finding it really straight forward

The kit comes with the essential tools you need to start (knife, finger tape, sharpener, sandpaper) However I had serious issues with the wood blocks provided being extremely difficult to work with. It's very hard and there are parts of the instructions that require large chances to be removed, a job you're better off using a saw for as using the carving knife will not only take you hours with only small gains, but also cause serious strain in your hand and arm and run the risk of injuring yourself (as I did several times) when you are having to really strain on your knife in order to make a dent in this wood, and therefore causing your knife to jolt and slip when it does break through. The pack comes with 2 blocks, and on the second I eventually gave up as it was like trying to carve a rock with a butter knife. I recommend getting the kit for the tools, but you're better off buying the wood yourself because the ones they provide are awful.

I've bought Beavercraft tools before so I knew the quality of this set was going to be excellent. The tools are ridiculously sharp straight out of the box. The roll of finger protection tape was a very helpful addition. I haven't tried carving the cherry wood yet but the basswood is easy to shape. Its thanks to Beavercraft that I now have a love of carving. It really is very relaxing and therapeutic. Mind your fingers though.

I bought this whittling kit having never done anything like this before. Most things were in the kit and it was fun starting it. It took me around 2 weeks doing an hour a day and it was harder than I thought. The end result was good though. Will definitely be doing more. Great price and great seller.
