Moorland Stable Wire Cage Animal Trap 5006 Humane Live Trapping of Grey Squirrel and other Rodents - 50 x 18 x 18 cm

This is a fourth trap I bought. This one works! The previous ones went back to Amazon. The doors at each end don’t spook the squirrel which enters thinking it can shoot out at the other end. The mechanism is sensitive but not too much. The doors drop and the first squirrel at least was not able to get out. The doors are heavy and they stay in place under their own weight. There is no gap at the bottom for the animal to prise them upwards and escape. Incredibly simple and effective. A previous trap of a different design worked until the squirrel uncoiled a retaining spring. I guess when your life depends on it you’re think fast and hard - and these little critters are ingenious. So much more satisfying when you outclever one. The trap had nice solid feel and has been powder coated in green - it should last long. It’s very easy to prime/set once you’ve worked out how. There are no instructions - it’s only fair you should have a certain IQ to catch these little Einsteins - but don’t be put off by it. Again, highly recommended. I’m considering buying another one. Now I need to think of a way of transporting the trap with an animal in it that will prevent my car smelling of squirrels. Be warned they stink! By the way I read somewhere releasing squirrels is illegal. Is it true?

Arrived earlier than advised, well packed. No instructions on how to set trap but only took a couple of minutes to work it out, The little blighters were easily drawn into trap with peanut butter used as a glue to make a pile of peanuts. One of the bigger squirrels did mananged to bend one piece of the wire in a corner but easily put back so inspected trap every couple of hours. Would suggest it only be set up during daylight hours as if left overnight there could be a hedgehog trapped in the morning. Also caught a magpie which didn't appreciate being captive. Really good trap and no longer having lawn ruined with holes filled with acorns. July 2021 Now caught 28 squirrels and have not seen another for a number of weeks. Lent it to a friend and he caught 5 squirrels in 2 days. Pity it's not available at the moment and hope it will be back soon as other friends are hoping to order one of these super traps as soon as they're back in stock.

Quick delivery. No instructions - took 2 minutes to sort out. It looks like you need three hands to set the trap but it can be set in a few seconds. Well constructed-does not harm anything entering, just captures them. Squirrels will sometimes steal the bait without triggering the trap but with a bit of thought you can fool them. It took 45 minutes to humanely catch and dispatch the first one, more the next day. Mainly used peanut butter to attract them. (UK customers - RELEASING or inhumanely killing a grey squirrel could cost you £££ in fines).

Well made, simple idea BUT the hinge plate is much too tight. I watched a squirrel go in, stand on the hinge plate and ate all of the bait. Useless as it is. I will have to take it apart and sand down then polish the paint from the spindle and mount holes.

I bought this to catch a couple of squirrels that had been damaging my garden. After a couple of weeks, I'd still caught nothing, but then I started using peanut butter on crispbread as bait, and I caught two squirrels the same morning, one after the other. The squirrel couldn't get out; it couldn't bite me while I was handling and carrying the cage; and it was easy to release it at a safe distance without fear of injury. Job done.

I have had a squirrel family destroying my garden and I bought this last week. After a couple of minutes confusion I worked out how to use this. I covered the trap with large rhubarb leaves and had a large squirrel in it within an hour. Having relocated the pesky creature I re-laid the trap but (it being Friday night) drank too much to be able to drive me new catch away. My morning it had gone as it had rocked the trap sideways and the doors slipped open. Not the traps fault - I could have put a brick on top or made sure that it was laid completely flat. Anyway yesterday, a few days later, with some nuts in as bait I caught another. I don't think that it will take too long to complete the job. recommended.

I caught a squirrel the first day and a second one a few days later using peanuts. Instructions were sparse but in simple terms the doors need to be turned from their packing orientation so that the bolts stick out at the door base. Setting is key, start off with the mechanism central and by trial and error move to one side just before the tipping point for a sensitive closure. Excellent robust trap.

(+) Bon produit, globalement efficace ; j'ai attrapé 2 rats en 4 jours (relâchés dans la foret à 5km de chez moi). Aaah on fait moins les malins les rats , c'est qui le patron ? Pour les appâts les rats sont pas difficiles... un biscuit apéro, un bout de merguez de la veille ou un fruit font bien l'affaire. J'ai failli attrapé un hérisson mais lui a été plus malin. (-) Problème de sensibilité : Bon le piège a du mal à se déclencher avec les rats (trop léger). Pour le 2ième rat et après avoir visionné la vidéo, le piège s'est déclenché au bout de la 6ieme fois seulement. On peut régler en partie le problème en n'ouvrant qu'une seule des 2 portes (moins de poids à déclencher). J'ai aussi réduit la longueur des parties en contact (2 tiges en fer), et ça marche mieux. Obs : Je ne met que 4 étoiles à cause de ce problème de sensibilité sinon le produit fonctionne bien ; je recommande un modèle un peu plus petit pour des rats (ou des souris). Le produit est de qualité au niveau de sa fabrication, RAS coté service et livraison.
