Surprised.
Bought on a whim for the wife who has since used them for her seedlings. Both of us have been surprised by how they have turned out and will be looking to buy more if we can find them at the right price. The pack contained two sizes the large of which were of no use to us at all so we just cut them down to half size. They are easy to use though a little fiddly to fill without a funnel and square in planform they use space really well as opposed to round types. The type is well worth trying if you grow your own seedlings.

Good bags, good price, just not both the size stated
These are decent nursery bags, but the smaller ones are (still) not the size stated. The smaller bags have changed since I first ordered these and sent them back because wrong size. The product description also now shows flat and opened dimensions (incorrectly referencing flat dimensions as "unfolded"), and the smaller bags are now the square opening variety shown in pics 1 -3 and folded flat, are about half as wide as stated, although the filled/opened dimensions are correct, so would advise you go by those if you want a particular size. The smaller ones shown in pics 4 & 5 are the width stated when flat, but these are no longer supplied. Otherwise, these are fine and would've given 5 stars if they were both the size stated. Regarding the environmentally friendly credentials, while they're made from polypropylene, compared to the resources used to make and ship plastic pots, plus the waste created when they're discarded, these are far preferable in my opinion. It's also preferable that they be made from polypropylene, compared to say, cotton, which is an environmental disaster, while being a "natural" fibre.. Also, polypropylene can be broken down by soil bacteria, according to what I've read. The Environmental Working Group classifies polypropylene as low to moderate hazard. They have a few advantages compared to plastic pots: roots don't circle around the outside or bottom, and using these for seedlings/cuttings allows development of a healthy root system with lots of small feeder roots, by air pruning roots and encouraging branching. Roots grow through them with ease, not like those horrible jiffy pellets, in which roots often seem to get "stuck" and be unable to penetrate them. I use these bags now for all my seeds and cuttings, and for young plants. You also don't have to disturb the roots when planting out or potting on, as you can plant the whole bag. They take longer to disintegrate than the peat or wood-chip pots, but this also has the advantage that they don't disintegrate before you want them to. Also, the wood-chip pots tend to attract loads of woodlice and are quite expensive. The only disadvantage with some bags is that they tend tip over quite easily, although the larger sizes, and some of the small ones fold out when filled, which makes them more stable. Now, both sizes supplied are this style, so quite stable when open. But the other shape bags come in sizes the square ones don't, which I why I use both types. I usually have them in propagators or gravel trays anyway, packed in tightly, so they can't fall over. The only disadvantage with packing them close together is that the roots can grow into the neighbouring bags and you have to tear them apart later. I've sown multiple batches of seeds in both wood-chip pots and this type of bag, and the seedlings grow just as well, if not better, in the bags and far better than in normal pots (whether terracotta or plastic). The other advantage with the bags is that they come in a wider range of sizes than the wood-chip or peat pots. Bearing in mind the size issue, I would recommend these without hesitation - it is also quite a good price for 200 bags of 2 sizes..

Absolute rubbish
These do not degrade in the slightest! They do not allow roots to grow through them and therefore the plants struggle or completely fail. I have just dug up 9 of these from last year and they are still completely intact.Don't waste your money on these, use a cardboard composite pot instead or simply a normal pot!

Maybe not suitable for all seeds
Easy to use but after a year seen no signs of being biodegradable. Some vegetable seeds didn’t like being grown in these.Okay to start of in but would recommend splitting the bag and removing same when putting the seedlings into the ground

A great alternative to seed trays and plastic pots!
I thought I would try these this year for my seedlings instead of plastic pots and I must say, I am impressed. They are perfect! Great value for money too. I have used both sizes for vegetable and flower seedlings and it has made it so much easier to transplant without disturbing the young plants as the whole thing can go into the ground! I can happily recommend the product and the Seller.
