I bought one of these for an elderly 89 year old parent who lives independently in her own home.The concept of this urn is fantastic as this urn has safety features such as the secured lid elastic toggle that would help stop a major spillagecif the urn somehow gets toppled.The jacket that fits over the urn is a fantastic idea sane with the simmer option on the switch to keep hot water constantly warm alongside the jacket insulation.Obviously the operation of the urn is simple and much safer than an elderly person lifting and filling a heavy kettle especially when boiling hot as with the urn all you have to do is simply pour the hot water into a cup.My greatest worry is the fact that unlike a domestic kettle the urn does not automatically switch off once boiled which is a big worry when you involve an elderly person. Your advice would be appreciated

I'm really disappointed with this item., The amount of water it holds is great and it's really simple to use but if you fill it up to even an inch under the max line it takes a long time to boil and there is no indicator to let you know that the water is at boiling temperature and that you could switch over to simmer. The size is great as it will stop you from reboiling several times a day like a new kettle but the dinky little plastic tap and washer aren't very good quality, it does appear to leak in places and frankly you'd be better off putting the money you'd spend on this to getting a Brita Kettle that's also 4L and has a built in water filter than buying one of these.

We bought this as our old water heater had broken and we thought we would try a cheaper make.We are both elderly and in our opinion, this is not safe for anyone to safely use.1. It skids on the workspace2. It does not switch off when boiling so could easily boil dry. You have to stand by it and listen to when you think it boils and manually switch it to simmer.3. There is no way to see how much water is in the urn except by taking the lid off. (More on that in a bit).4. The thermal jacket leaves areas of extreme heat to catch out unwary fingers.5 Bizarrely, the lid is held on with a bungee! This is hooked over the 2 handles and takes a bit of strength to stretch it across, so you have to hold it with a teatowel, because it is so hot and struggle to get it on or off with sometimes a full urn of boiling water inside while it skids on the worktops.We returned it and reported it to Trading Standards.

My boiler broke so I had no hot water for a couple of weeks and this made all the difference, saved boiling kettles all the time for washing and cleaning. Use to fill up in the morning and switch to boil, once boiling would put to simmer for the day, topping up as required. Sited next to the sink so easy to fill bowls etc. Very useful for coffee from simmering as it was the perfect temperature for me to drink (I don't have very hot drinks) but if you do like them hot you would need to boil I think. Loved the security of the clips on the top. I'm very rural and the water is pumped up from a spring so can also be short at times of the year, this will enable me to also store water when the tanks run out so very pleased with it.

It's a good product definitely with the jacket on to stop burning of your hands.Comes with elastic to keep lid secure but lid twists into place aswell.
