Slap It: Funk Studies for the Electric Bass - MP3 Audio Download Review: A great resource for learning to play slap bass! - This is the bible of slapping! This is the second copy I've bought (the first came with small vinyl records to play the examples, to let you know how long it's been around). Review: Great for Beginners and More - I'm not a complete beginner with Bass, but my experience is pretty limited. I could do some basic slap techniques before getting the book. I haven't played in a decade or so, however. This book has great exercises which work up to fun to play riffs. Even the riffs in the beginng sound pretty cool, despite the fact tha they are relatively easy to play. There are 99 tracks included for download (look for a download code and instructions, not a physical CD). From the sound and complexity of the latter tracks, the book is not only limited to beginners like me. I am having a lot of fun working through the book!

Excellent Technical Studies
I first started with this book on its first edition and have used it as a teaching text since. The exercises are laid out very well with a carefull, logical flow and progression punctuated by some surprise grooves to break up the flow. Students are inclined to skip over the open string exercises at the front of the book although they should be looked at closely particularly at the recommended tempos. This book is very useful as a way of building technique and preparing for creative lines. Supplemented by transcriptions and by application of these techniques to chord patterns this text belongs in the library of serious bass students.

Classic slap book.
Great book although, it would be nice to have the chord changes above the bass lines for beginners. I had this book many years ago and now re-ordered it to use for students and review for myself. It is very easy to follow.

The Legend
Shall I be the first reviewer to give this book less then 5 stars..........? Na'h. It's just too awesome. I worked with this same book in high school all those years ago. And now, after a multi-decade bass guitar sabbatical, here it is with the CD demo and the tab notation. Wow. The CD is so much fun you could just pop it into your car and drive around listening to it. The only complaint I could throw Tony's way is I wish he would split this book into a Volume 1 for beginners and Volume 2 for advanced. Many of the exercises are overwhelming for my skill set, and then to hear Tony play them....good grief. He is truly the Buddy Rich of the bass guitar. I wish there was an edition with some easier exercises and slower demos. Nevertheless, there is plenty to love here, even for a non-expert like me, and no bass guitarist should be without this book.

the Best slap bass book i have ever seen. I have been playing bass for a good portion of my life, and i have been good at slap bass for some time now. I only wish i would have found this book 20 years ago. If you are a beginner looking to learn slap bass this book is for you. if you have been playing along time and are looking to polish up on your slap tech, this book is for you.

AWESOME!!!
An old teacher of mine used to use this as a resource to teach from, and since returning from university overseas I decided to pick it up for myself. It's gotten better since; the added tabs for each exercise and the recording of nearly EVERY exercise makes this book the best resource for studying slap bass. Oppenheim's Berklee background certainly shines through in this one! :) Buy it! 100% worth your while, for every level of player. -Mark, Vancouver, CANADA

A Must Have Book!
I studied with Tony for a couple of months to get things going back in 83? I must say I had the book but it wasn't until I studied with Tony that I understood how important the beginning exercises are. I Overlooked them because they were simple... big mistake. There are subtleties to the right hand position that Tony uses. It is not easy to describe with words in a book. I think Tony should consider a Youtube demo of the technique and use it as an advertisement. Anyway do the beginning exercises using a metronome in the 40's and get clean strikes with a full sound. This was Tony's first lesson. I resisted inside but took his advice and never regretted it(thanks Tony). Precision in the beginning will payoff later. Enjoy
