Skepticism dissipated! Evaporated! Buy this, but read the instructions!
Mosquito repellent products ALWAYS come with a healthy dose of skepticism. Repellents always make you taste bad, smell bad or also repel your loved ones too.We camped just off a lake shore, near a marsh, that was also near a rain forest. The mosquitoes were aggressive, came in large numbers and were pretty big in size too. In the 4 minutes it took to exit the kayaks and pull them up on shore, I'd already killed 11 mosquitoes on mmjust my forehead alone. I keep we would be in for a rough time once the wetsuits came off. But my friend had one of these with him and it was his first time using it. I admit, I made a face when he pulled the thing out once we made camp. Mosquitoes were absolutely nuts and were swarming around our heads in literal clouds, getting in our eyes, noses, ears and yes, I know I swallowed several... But we're not going to talk about that. It was bad. Really bad. My friend finally located the bag with the repellant and set it up. We had to check several times to see if the thing was even on since it made zero noise - which was excellent because we were absolutely in love with the songs the mosquitoes were singing in our ears. He turned this thing on and... The mosquitoes cleared the space about as fast as 'that guy' who lets a rotten one out at the checkout line at the grocery store. Cleared a space so well, but there was no odor, no real smoke, just.... Clear, mosquito free air. It was really nice. The others started emerging from their tents and could also enjoy the relatively small, but mosquito free space to cook and sit. This was the first thing I did when I got cell phone service again. I bought two, and then I went camping again. The combined powers of my two and his repellants, really did improve the quality of experience we had on that first trip and the second one. What also surprised me was how little fuel the product used. One little can of propane lasted a week long camping trip. It's so easy to use even their 10 year old set it up on their own while we were all preparing for the next leg of our trip. The product doesn't let off any light, though it does burn propane. I highly recommend this product, but read the directions and understand the ingredients you're working with and how to properly handle it. Just don't be dumb and out it in your eyes... And for the love of... - don't eat it. I hope this helps :)

Great build quality... but what kind of fuel?!?!
Great build quality, very durable. The design is perfect and packs away nicely. We found it to be very effective with mosquitoes but not bigger bugs like deer flys and horse flys. The cards last about an hr outside. There is a slight odor but its not disturbing at all. The only suggestion I would make is it doesn't tell you what kind of fuel to buy! Thats the reason for 4 stars and not 5. Luckily I am a very outdoorsy person and was able ti use past common knowledge to know it take the cooking style Butane canister. It doesn't use much fuel at all and in my opinion is the more cost effective thermacell. The rubber plug on the bottom is a nice touch to keep debris out. The bag was great for storage. All in all it works great. I would highly recommend. This is for outdoor use only!!

IT WORKS!
This has gotten me through multiple backpacking trips in July in Oregon in lake country with my sanity intact... which is saying something! Other campers near us were hiding in their tents, but we didn't need to :)

Need to purchase the adapter as well
Nice product. Buyers also need to purchase the camping stove adapter for the Thermocell Backpacker

No fuel information on packaging
I’m new at monkeying around with, “camping fuel containers. “I have been somewhat pleased with these Thermacell products, but the continual cost of the fuel cells and the blue pads adds up overtime and creates a lot of waste.I saw this device, where it could be screwed on top of a camping fuel canister And cut down on the waist and increase the efficiency of fuel use using this canister top device instead of all the refills.I tried my best to research exactly what type of canister it required, and the wording on the packaging itself reads, “uses all camping fuels.” Well, to me, the Coleman company is synonymous with camping gear. They have a traditional dark green coloring to their products, and I already had a mental picture in my mind from years of advertising seeing these Coleman canisters being used in these, “camping applications.“So, I went to Tractor Supply And bought a two pack of Coleman brand canisters. They have the wrong fittings for this product. The issue is not so much I don’t think the company name or settings themselves, the issue is the fittings follow the exact type of fuel in the can. That’s the second problem. The Coleman products I bought or canisters I bought were propane. There are all sorts of terms, both actual and marketing, for these fuels. There is propane. There is isopropane. There is propane, butane mix. The combinations and terms are endless. But this product will not work on purely propane fuel. I did not know that since the packaging said, “works with all camping fuels.”So, I came to Amazon and bought a two pack of camping fuel canister adapters. I put the adapter on the top of one of the Coleman canisters. I screwed it on properly and it worked. I screwed this thermacell device on top of the Adapter, and the fuel flowed. But, the thermacell device would not light instantly, and when it did light, it would not stay lit.I went back to Amazon comments on this product and dug deeper and found out from a thermacell response to a “fuel question” that this unit will not work on purely propane. It must run on butane or some mixture of butane. It would’ve been nice to know that upfront in the product description and it would’ve been nice to be able to read that on the outside of the product packaging. It does not say that it will not run on propane; it says it will run on, “all camping fuels.“ Propane is a camping fuel, and it will not run on purely propane.I tried to return the adapters to the seller on Amazon, and they would not except returns. It’s not their fault, although I would’ve appreciated, knowing that in large print of no returns. You had to hit the hyperlink on the “products return“ to see that. So now I’m stuck with two camping fuel fuel adapters that I don’t need and cannot return. This could’ve all been avoided if thermacell would have put this information in the Amazon product description and printed it on their packaging. Thanks thermacell.Less than one year later: one device works well. The other will not stay lit.
