Product Review: Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover 500ml
If you own a car, you know how stubborn tar spots and adhesive residues can be. They seem to cling to your car's surface, resisting traditional washing methods. The Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover is designed to tackle this problem head-on, offering an effective solution for removing tar, adhesives, and other challenging residues from many surfaces. Design and Packaging The Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover comes in a 500ml bottle, which is compact and easy to handle. The bottle has a simple screw-top design, and the product can be applied directly from the bottle onto a cloth or applicator. The label provides clear instructions on usage, and the packaging has the characteristic Autoglym branding that is recognizable and reliable. Effectiveness and Performance This tar remover delivers outstanding results. It’s formulated to break down tar and adhesive residues without damaging your car's paintwork or clear coat. When applied, the product quickly starts to dissolve the tar, making it easy to wipe away. It can also be used to remove glue residue from stickers and decals, as well as stubborn grease marks. To use it, simply apply a small amount of the tar remover to a cloth or sponge and gently rub the affected area. After a few moments, the tar begins to dissolve, allowing you to wipe it away effortlessly. You may need to repeat the process for particularly stubborn spots, but the product works effectively without requiring excessive scrubbing. I suggest using microfiber cloth to apply. Safety and Compatibility One of the key benefits of this tar remover is that it’s safe for use on a variety of surfaces, including paintwork, plastics, rubber, and glass. This makes it versatile and suitable for a range of applications around your car and your home. It doesn't leave behind any greasy residue or streaks, ensuring a clean finish. Additionally, it's designed to be gentle enough not to strip wax or other protective coatings on your vehicle. Application and Convenience The 500ml size is generous and should last for several uses, even with frequent application. The product has a pleasant scent compared to some other chemical-based cleaners, which is a bonus for those sensitive to strong odors. It’s a great addition to your car care kit, allowing you to keep your vehicle looking pristine with minimal effort. Conclusion Overall, the Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover is a highly effective and reliable product for removing tar, adhesives, and other stubborn residues from your car and using around your home. Its safe formulation, ease of use, and compatibility with different surfaces make it a valuable tool for car enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike. If you're looking for a tar remover that gets the job done without causing damage or requiring excessive effort, this product is a great choice.

Really good product
Followed the instructions and applied the liquid to a cloth. Rubbed the paint gently which removed the tar with minimal effort. Highly recommend if you happened to have gotten tar all over your car. I did give the car a thorough wash after.

Very effective and highly recommended
I bought this after careful comparison, for some excess TigerSeal from paintwork. Mainly for other purposes, but I needed a really good one in the hope that it would soften the odd bits that had accidentally been left on. I opened the bottle got some clean cloth and dabbed it on. To my amazement it was completely removed in a few seconds, taking minutes to remove it from all the other areas. If it will remove hardened TigerSeal it will certainly remove anything that comes off the road.

Excellent
Very good, easily removed tar spots and several smudges I made while attempting to clean them off when washing the car. Little effort required to remove using a cotton flannel.

Effective tar remover.
Does the job at a fair price, but would prefer a spray on application for larger areas.

Safely removed old number plate adhesive.
Intensive Tar Remover. The product comes in a white plastic bottle that’s basically the same as the rest of the Autoglym range. I know this is advertised mainly as a tar remover but I purchased it to help remove sticky pad adhesive during a number plate change. To remove number plates that are stuck on rather than attached with screws, simply get hold of a bit of fishing line or dental floss, cut off a decent length and wrap it around your hands mafia style, place the line between the plate and the car and cut through the adhesive pads via a sawing motion. Dead easy, dead quick and doesn’t harm your paintwork. Well I haven’t tried this on tar but it removed the adhesive residue from my car with no issues and no damage to the paintwork. The old plates had been stuck on for eight years and after I got the plates off the old sticky residue was basically fossilised onto the car, no way was it coming off with fingernails or WD40. If you try the instructions for adhesive then you’ll be at it for years, so don’t. The trick is to remove any exterior ‘foam’ first exposing just the sticky layer. I didn’t have a lot of the top layer to remove so just used my fingernails but I imagine you could use a credit card or similar if required. I then carefully bathed the glue with this stuff several times, over a ten-twenty minute period, occasionally holding a cloth soaked with the chemical against the old tape. After being thoroughly saturated like this it simply peeled off leaving nothing behind. A good rinse afterwards and all done. So this worked well for my purposes. It stinks, it attracts flies (I changed my underwear in the winter of 1975 so it must have been this liquid), it could do with a spray nozzle for easier application and the bottle isn’t exactly huge for the amount of pennies it costs but it removed fossilised glue, did not leave any residue behind and didn’t harm the paintwork even after extended periods of exposure. Can’t complain, would recommend. Me likey.
