Essential Tool for Photographers and Filmmakers
The Sekonic FLASHMATE L-308X is a reliable and versatile exposure meter that truly earns its spot in any photographer or filmmaker's toolkit. Compact and lightweight, it’s perfect for on-the-go shoots without adding unnecessary bulk to your gear bag.The dual-purpose design accommodates both still photography and cinematography needs, allowing easy switching between modes. The accuracy of the readings is exceptional, ensuring that your exposures are spot-on whether you're working with natural light, studio setups, or mixed lighting conditions.I particularly appreciate the inclusion of both incident and reflected light metering options, which makes it adaptable to various scenarios. The LCD display is clear and easy to read, and the intuitive interface means you can quickly adjust settings even under pressure. For filmmakers, the cine mode with shutter angle and frame rate options is a great addition, making it much easier to plan shots precisely. The only minor drawback is that it feels a little plasticky for the price point, but its performance more than makes up for it. Overall, the Sekonic L-308X is a fantastic investment for creatives who demand precision and reliability in their work.

Great, just wish it wasn't so plasticy
As others have said this meter works brilliantly. I just wish the build quality was better. It's a fairly expensive bit of kit but it feels VERY cheap and plasticy. I'd expect something that's a bit more robust in the hand for the price but it's a touch smaller than I expected and works well. I generally shoot at 1/200s which is the sync speed for my camera but the meter won't allow you to set that as the shutter speed out of the box - worth going into the custom functions to change it to smaller stops so there's a bit more granular control. Would be 5 stars if the build quality was more in line with the price.

Glad I bought it!
The light meter seems to work well, I got it mostly for the incident flash metering and that has worked perfectly. The unit itself is quite light even with the batteries installed, and it is small enough to fit in a bigger pocket. It has enough different modes for me and operation is quite simple. Glad I bought it, has made studio flash use a lot easier.

Still a place for a light meter in the digital age
Does what it is designed to do, and does it faultlessly. Easy to learn options and operation for ambient light or flash.Of course you need to understand the science of photographic exposure to get the best results. But useful out of the box for those wanting the best results in their images.

Flimsy Plastic
My old trusty L-308S was destroyed when I (unusually) left a battery in it that leaked acid. I have to say that, in comparison with that older version, this newer one feels disappointingly cheap. The new plastic is of the light and fragile variety, and if it were dropped (Heaven forbid), it would smash into a thousand pieces, I'm sure. I am pretty disappointed with it.I also don't like that, in FLASH mode, and after making a reading, you cannot scroll up and down to give shutter speed/aperture pairings of that one reading. If you reset the aperture/speed, you have to remeasure. Seems a pretty dumb decision to do that.If there were an alternative, I would try it, believe me.
