You need a hose clip to attach the pipes to it , one is provided on the outflow side (ie valve side that attaches to the macerator) the other is not (waste pipe) and the force of the water through the valve is considerable so you do need it! Very simple design that is well made and very unlikely to give you any problems provided you filter the water on the input of the macerator , otherwise anything that is in the water will get stuck in the valve.
