Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately the ED2000 will not have the same effect on your laundry that a true water softener will have. Hard water can cause problems when washing clothes since the dissolved calcium and magnesium that causes hardness will prevent the soap from mixing with water effectively. This causes leftover soap residue and scum that can prevent clothes from coming clean. Unlike a traditional water softener, The ED2000 allows the calcium and magnesium to remain in the water so soap in your laundry can still be affected by the dissolved solids and prevent it from mixing completely.
