The Complete Guide to RV Electrical, Computer, Solar and Communications Systems Working and Living Independently on the Road Paperback – July 8, 2009

Considering a remote office in my delivery van. This book gives a good and clearly organized overview of basic systems but is it least 10 years out of date. Goes into depth on the details of setting up communications through Microsoft drop down menus and such. Information will transfer to the non Microsoft world, but definitely geared towards those attached to the Microsoft umbilical cord.The solar and battery sections are well thought through but because it was written 10 years ago recent advances in battery materials and costs are absent.It has helped me avoid several pitfalls, but for the price, and especially as its written by an engineer, I expected somethingmore complete and in depth.

Great guide. Lots of detail and diagrams.

The biggest problem with this book is the quality of the images. The images are an important source of information because they are used to communicate the steps used to access various programs and computer features. In many cases the quality is so poor you don't understand the information being presented. This is a fairly recent publication, which is a plus. Overall, the poor quality of the images significantly detracts from what could be an excellent book.

I bought several RV books with an eye to upgrading my camper for 'off the grid' camping. I have an Aliner Ranger popup. This book devotes a disproportionate amount of space to computer issues which I think are now common knowledge and might have been helpful to users 5 to 10 years ago. The information on electrical and solar systems I found too vague to be of much use to me. Instead, I found the detailed, explicit information I needed on off grid camping in "The Complete Book of Boondock RVing" by Moeller. I highly recommend the Boondocking book, but not the book under review here.

If you need a book that is made up of windows screen shots showing you how to set up a network connection and snippets of information that have been cut and pasted from other sources, this is for you. There is nothing of use here.DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
