Take the drivers seat in Class 47 47745 for one of our most unusual cab rides. The journey starts at Paddington in the rear cab. We travel via the Up and Down Engine and Carriage Flyover to Acton Main Line. Now in the front cab we go to Watford via Acton Wells Junction, Acton Canal Wharf Junction and the Low Level Goods Lines through Willesden Yards. The return journey takes the same route although this time we enter the depot at Old Oak Common and into the HST sheds right up to the buffer stops.

As real as it gets.
This is an unusual cab ride. The view from Paddington to Acton is from the rear cab window; from Acton to Watford is the front cab view and on the return trip the journey to Acton from Watford is also looking forwards. Then we have a little more action looking backwards before running into Old Oak Common Depot forwards. The camera is very solidly mounted, not a quiver to be felt. Most of the trip is on main lines with at least 4, often more, lines showing lots of meets and overtakes. There is some good high-speed running between Willesden and Watford, nicely interspersed with some single line transfers between the main lines.Anyone looking for scenic beauty, however, should look elsewhere. This is industrial North-West London in Winter and the scenery is mainly leafless scrubby bushes liberally sprinkled with litter in front of industrial, commercial and residential areas. I love it personally, it's real railroading rather than fancy rural scenes with delightful music, but for anyone interested in the romance of the railways this won't appeal. The commentary is minimal, confined to identifying the stations and lines. This is my only quibble- we are not shown the locomotive, nor is it described in any way other than a brief written identification at the start.Still, for enthusiasts who enjoy seeing the kind of driver's eye view that probably comprises what the vast majority of drivers around London see every day, this is as real as it gets.
