Easy to setup, smooth, high quality capture on Mac
I got this primarily to record 1080p input streams from other devices on Mac. It was plug-and-play, HDMI goes into the source, USB-C into the Mac and it shows up.It only worked on the USB-C port nearest the power cable on my Mac M1 laptop, the other 2 USB-C ports didn't connect. Maybe insufficient power on the other ports.I found OBS software to be the best option for capturing. Elgato Studio and Quicktime are simpler to use but have very few options for configuring and OBS has video filters to adjust color and picture quality.Although I intended to use it for 1080p, I have it set to 4K as it gives a sharper image and it works great at 4K60. I can record 4K60 videos and they are smooth and clear. Connection speed is 5Gbps.The product is compact and lightweight, the supplied cables are high quality and look durable. The device barely gets warm even after using it for hours. One thing to note that I found out later is the 4K X has higher quality recording formats. I assumed the only difference was being able to capture 4K120 due to running at 10Gbps, which I didn't need but it also allows higher quality recording of the lower resolutions and framerates so if the best picture quality is needed, it may be worth paying the extra for the 4K X.The 4K S suited my needs perfectly, it's very reasonably priced and works great.

Almost perfect
Captures consoles and other devices to my pc perfectly with no effort and high quality with no lag.Just be warned when you buy this product that you have usb ports that gives it enough bandwidth and power. It comes with a usb C to C cable so make sure your motherboard has one available or you can use a USB C to A cable if you have a usb 3.2 gen 2 port.Anything lower it won't support it and it's not worth buying.

Not impressed
Waste of my time and money. Tried every suggestion on youtube and in forums to stop my screen from going black every few minutes. It seemed to work at first, but within five minutes of use my screen kept flickering from the game to a black screen. OBS was showing the game was working in the background but for whatever reason this didnt work for me.Not reliable at all and not worth anywhere near the asking price of this product. Ridiculously over priced for such an item.

A Pro-Level Capture Card That Delivers
As someone who’s tested multiple capture solutions, the Elgato 4K X stands out for all the right reasons. Right out of the box, it impresses with a sleek, minimal design and plug-and-play simplicity. Setup is genuinely easy—no driver drama, no firmware fiddling. Just USB 3.2, and you’re good to go.Key strengths:Pristine 4K60 HDR10 Capture – The quality is razor-sharp with no compression artifacts. Whether you're streaming games, recording camera footage (what I mainly use it for), or creating content, this card captures detail and colour depth beautifully.VRR & Passthrough Support – Variable Refresh Rate support is a game-changer, especially if you're gaming on PS5 or Xbox Series X. No screen tearing, just buttery-smooth passthrough up to 240Hz at 1080p or 1440p.Ultra-Low Latency – You can monitor gameplay or live camera feeds in real-time without a hint of lag. Great for live streamers or hybrid work setups.Cross-platform Compatibility – Works seamlessly on both Windows and macOS, and with most popular software like OBS, Streamlabs, and even Zoom or Teams if you’re going the professional webcam route.Future-Proof – With full support for HDMI 2.1 features and high frame rates, this card is ready for both current-gen consoles and pro camera workflows. In short: the Elgato 4K X is an ideal choice for content creators, streamers, or professionals looking for reliability, top-tier capture quality, and features that won’t be outdated anytime soon.

The best capture card I've used
Captures exactly as it says. No dropped frames. Can capture and pass through up to 4K at 120fps. Currently using it at 1440p at 120fps due to my monitor restrictions. All in all, it's an excellent product and high quality. It's expensive but it's worth it's price. Lastly, it works on low end device too.

All around good Product, i would say the best you could get in the market.
Everything about this product is class. But they could have included a minimum of two HDMI 2.1 cables at this price tag. Instead of just one!!..
