How do I remove the existing slider bar and install this item?

The cap of the bottom bracket will need to be popped off with a small flat head screw driver. Once the cap is off you will see either a Phillips head screw or four tabs depending on the age. Either remove the screw or press the tabs down to release the bar to install this holder.

Does this handheld shower head holder come in brushed nickel? I need to replace mine, it is cracking

Yes it does. I have one in my bathroom which I installed in 2001. No sure if available today
