Great orchard grass hay; buying again
Love this hay! Recommended if you're looking for hay that lacks seed heads and/or isn't Timothy (Phleum pratense). I'm putting in a second order after I type this review and will update if anything is substantially different, next round -- but I know hay is a natural product and there will be variation. Below, I'll address shipping speed, how long this lasted for our animals, and storage; then characteristics of the hay itself and our allergies.Super fast shipping. I bought the 10 lb. box on September 30 and started using it when it was delivered three days later, on October 3. This supply has lasted my small lop bunny (not a high-volume hay eater) nearly three months. During that time, I fed small amounts of some other types of hay a few times, but there were also serious incursions by my daughter's two voracious visiting buns, who are HUGE hay eaters. When this hay arrived, I re-boxed it right away into two Sterilite 56-qt plastic-lidded storage boxes, leaving some in the original cardboard box. Obviously, volume depends on how you compact or don't, but that should give you a rough idea of how much hay this was. Very economical. Yet at the end of three months, stored in a cool and dry basement, it's still fresh-smelling and bun-attracting. (The opening of a big bin of hay is an exciting moment in any rabbit's life, as you may know. Naturally, THAT stuff is far more fascinating than whatever's been in your litter box since this morning.)Per the description -- do read it -- this hay is from a cutting that lacks seed heads. Compared to Kaytee Timothy Hay (or others), this orchard grass hay is much softer, without all those sharply cut ends that poke my hands, making my skin itch between supplying buns and washing up. The grass strands are much longer, greener, and flatter. They're a bit like paper Easter grass, yet still a bit wiry to help wear down rabbit teeth. Enough? I'm not sure. Your vet could advise, or see House Rabbit Society's "Hay in Your Bunny's Diet." Little Furry Man has not complained about lack of seed heads, transferring his loyalty from mostly Timothy Hay to this orchard grass without complaint.Mixed results on the asthma and allergy front: my spouse noticed no difference, but I'm much happier, with a lot less sneezing. Less dust on the bottom than with Kaytee Timothy Hay (and others).

Bunny loves it! Repeat customer and bunny approved!
The media could not be loaded. My bunny loves this hay! I always buy the 10 lb size which will last me about 6 weeks. Nicely packed—dense not loosely packed. Not dusty at all. Haven’t tried other brands since my bunny seems to like this one. For the price and convenience of not having to go to the pet store to buy it,it’s definitely worth it! Each order arrives with a cute postcard from the company, which adds a nice touch!8/20 UPDATE: I ordered a 10 lb box as usual, but when it arrived, I noticed the hay was very brown and dry and contained little wheat-looking seedlings, not the usual fresh green. (See photos: box of hay with browner hay.) Thought it was a fluke, requested a refund and replacement, and that too, arrived brown and dry. When I gave it to my bunny though, she initially sniffed it for awhile, but ate it, too my relief. I called SPS directly, told her my situation, and she explained that they changed their hay supplier, which they found has “lighter colored” hay with more seedlings. She assured me that it was all safe, but that they are looking to change the supplier again mid-October. If you still have an old batch of SPS hay, she did advise initially mixing that with this new batch of hay to gradually introduce it to your pet. While I am happy my bunny likes this even still, I do prefer the other supplier, which was greener, had less seedlings, and contained longer hay strands. Nevertheless, SPS is my (and my bunny’s) #1 choice!!10/20 UPDATE: Well, SPS must have gotten quite a few complaints about the change in quality because I just reordered another box, and it’s back to fresh, green, beautiful hay again!!! We spoke and they listened....THANK YOU, SPS!!! Although my bunny still seemed to enjoy the brown hay just the same, this newer one just looks healthier and better for my bun. The last photo shows the new hay. It’s totally green with long strands, no seedlings, no dust, and no brown hay. And talk about fresh!! Compare this to my other brown hay photo. I really hope SPS stays with this new hay supplier. Thank you, SPS, for providing such high quality hay at a great value!

Always fresh, consistent, and nicely packed
I’ve been ordering various hays from Small Pet Select for a year now; timothy 2, orchard, and oat. I used to drive 45 minutes to the shelter to pick up hay for my three bunnies, but that is difficult with my schedule. I also couldn’t consistently find retail bags of hay at local stores or even here on Amazon. Orders of Oxbow hay and pellets would get delayed, leaving me scrambling to keep my buns properly fed. And let’s be honest, retail bags of hay are ridiculously expensive for the amount of stale hay you get. I’m also careful not to buy blends that contain additives and lack nutritional value for my adult buns (e.g. alfalfa). I do not buy brands like Kaytee or any of those other small pet brands that willingly and knowingly sell food with fillers that can cause serious GI problems for *all* small pets. After a year of subscribing to SPS, I have to say I’m very happy with the hay. Out of 21 deliveries, only one box appeared a little yellower than usual, and bunnies still happily devoured the box. Every box looks and smells fresh, and is packed neatly to the brim. Once we’re done with it, we break it down and throw it in our recycling bin. There is minimal waste. My buns go through two boxes (20 lbs.) a month, and we use it for both food and bedding. Unrelated, our cat also likes to sit in the hay with the buns. I really love how much time this saves me, and I never have to worry about keeping my buns fed and happy. I highly recommend SPS for the convenience and quality you get for the price.
