Does this hitch fit a 2" receiver or something bigger?

This fits into the standard 2" receiver socket.

I just ordered this but now I see it's for 2.5" lunette. The trailer I ordered has a 3" lunette. Is this going to be an issue?

I have an old Hudson trailer with a 3 inch lunette (inside diameter) I use this hitch for that and it works very well!

This hitch sticks out way too long, has anyone cut off the length of the shank and re-drill the hole for the pin?

This could be done, with considerable effort. Forged metal is tough. However, if you shorten the shank you'd increase the possibility of bumper damage when making small radius backup maneuvers.
