My Macbook Pro (15" Retina early 2013) gave up the ghost and took with it a MUCH NEEDED file (that I should have backed up). After several fruitless attempts to save my workhorse of a computer, I realized I was S.O.L., but I NEEDED that file! Unsure of EXACTLY what I needed, I eventually came across this adapter for the HD.The HD needs to be pushed hard into the slot - it will click in. I think I plugged in the USB-C prior to plugging in the power (not sure if that makes a difference, but it didn't work the first time I plugged everything in.) Anyway, I was absolutely thrilled when I saw the HD pop up on my screen, and in no time I had the file transferred and backed up.This adapter saved me countless hours of work - a real life saver!

I used this to recover data from a 2013 Macbook HDD. I used a 2020 Macbook Air to perform this task. You need to use both USB-C ports (see my picture), I believe one is used for data, the other used for just power. This makes it awkward as you need two adapters (in my case I used an Aukey USB-A to USB-C adapter, and the Apple version of the same thing). For the heck of it, I tried using a cell phone external battery pack to power one USB cable (in case you only have one adapter handy) but that did not work.

Unit worked for 1 use and then failed causing me to loose a lot of jobs. Will never buy another product from this company again. Past the return policy so no luck in getting anything done.

I liked the fit, and quality....however could use some instructions on how to use it. It's not completely clear once it's hooked up.

Had a MacBook that needed data recovered off SSD. The drive has a pin placement that is special to the machine. This model solved my problem and I saved all my photos.

Doesn't support all 2013 macbook pros, check your model number, A1425 is "early 2013" and didn't work. Also, no instructions included, unclear to me when the unit needs to use the second power cable included. Housing looks nice though, good quality, shame I didn't get to test it. Also, shipped from China I believe, wasn't clear to me in the listing.

Works perfectly. Easy to assemble and appears to be quite well made.

I used the product to retrieve my stored data from my laptop that suffered from an electrical peak during a power outage and fried my laptop.
