Terminal City (Alexandra Cooper Book 16)

I agree with those who think this series and in particular its main character have lost their way. The endless citing of historical facts about NYC is one thing, but my main gripe, having read all the previous books, is that Alexandra Cooper is quite unrecognisable compared to earlier books. It is painful to read about this whining, needy, self-centered woman and quite impossible to understand why she is supposed to be such a catch. The assumption seems to be that, thanks to some money, a taste for ballet and oysters, she is way out of the league of all the men who pursue her, and in particular of Mike Chapman. Who btw also comes across as a complete prat, and a misogynistic one at that. Come to think of it, maybe they deserve each other. As a reader I feel I deserve better though.

I've recently come back to this series after having missed the last 4 or 5 books. It follows the same formula as her other books, lots of historical facts about the building/ place the story is set - in this instance it is Grand Central Terminal.I've followed this series for years; the main draw being the will they/ won't they relationship with Cooper and Chapman; however, although this has been dangled in front of us since the previous book you get no more movement. I'm left to think that Fairstein is savvy in some ways and is drawing this potential relationship out longer. Although it was referred to in the last book that if they have a relationship they won't be able to work together anymore I'm thinking that the direction Mike's career seems to be taking in this book leaves the door open for a relationship?I agree with other reviewers on how Cooper seems to have become an extremely whiny character in this book. Rather than buy the next few in the series I'm going to re-read this series from the beginning as, like with so many other long series, the earlier books are definitely stronger.It will go in my collection but I'm glad I didn't pay full price

The earlier Cooper books were excellent, but the last 2 have been filled with an overload of historical facts, all interesting, but if I had wanted a book on the history of Grand Central I would have purchased one, not a fictional crime thriller. The plot was turgid, the characters have become stale and lack lustre, and I felt as if I was a bystander in a vendetta against the mayor in real life, thanks to reviewer Steven Green for reassuring me I wasn't imagining this.My last book on this series and regret spending money on it.

Well I agree with other reviewers that this series is going down hill but not for the same reasons. I actually found the facts about Grand Central Terminal and the park in the last book (Death Angel) quite interesting. However what I cannot forgive is that the character Alex Cooper who is a leading light in a sex crimes unit and supposedly intelligent and well educated, would apparently desperately want a relationship with a nasty piece of work like Mike Chapman.Is Ms Fairstein leading up to a book where they have a relationship and AC becomes a victim of domestic violence? Certainly MC's behaviour would appear to be leading that way. All those nasty put downs, particularly in public, undermining her in front of colleagues and strangers alike. Lying to her and treating her incredibly badly. Did Ms Fairstein and her editors not bother to read what was written? Surely they should have realised that this sort of behaviour is a classic lead up to domestic violence. Even if it is not intended that way, surely the supposedly empathetic Mercer would not have led his pal get away with such dreadful put downs?Better sort that one out by the next book or it will be another fan lost.

I hate not finishing a book I have started. I always try to finish it, no matter what. But I am really struggling with this one. I am just over halfway through and I really have no interest whatsoever in carrying on. If I had the slightest interest in the history of trains and the train system in Manhatten, maybe it would be different, but this book just reads like a history book that occasionally remembers that it's supposed to be about murder so throws one in every so often so they have an excuse to get back to the history of Grand Central Terminal and the surrounding buildings.I have been with this series since the beginning but I have grown tired of how 'wonderful' Alex Cooper is. Rich, gorgeous, tall (I think we get that she's 5' 10" we're told often enough), friends with all the important people. She is now just coming across as annoying and spoilt.This series needs either shaking up big time or ending.IF I can bring myself to finish this book and it gets any better, I will update my review.

Terrible. I feel let down completely by this book. I enioyed the first few but the constant reiteration of the shared history of Cooper, Chapman and Wallace really began to grate after book 5 or 6. I'm sure Ms. Fairstein (with the help of those acknowledged in each book) is a meticulous researcher, but the sheer volume of history bogged down the plot in this book, to its detriment, for me anyway. In Terminal City as in some other Cooper books, there are a number of sub-plots introduced but never properly developed, and as a Kindle reader, I often came to the end of each book wondering if I had got some edited or cut-down version. I have read all of the Cooper books, and this one will be my last. I am most disappointed, and if another one comes up, I will not be buying. Frankly, I have no further interest in the character of Cooper, a self-centered, wealthy, over-indulged woman, and her accolytes. Goodbye, Linda Fairstein.

Easy to read crime novel - similar pattern in all her work, but a nice underlying story too.I now own several of her books.Book arrived promptly in a good condition.

Extremely disappointed - I couldnt believe I was reading about the same characters - they had changed so much. Alex came over as a real whinger and Mike Chapman an utter wimp. Sorry Ms Fairstein, you just lost a fan :(
