Run to get this laptop!!!
This laptop is genuinely amazing, a true machine. I bought this laptop in May and it still works perfectly fine. It runs well with split screen multi-tasking and gaming like Roblox. It also has astonishing speed. The battery life only drains a bit faster when you’re playing games, which is expected. Other than that, if you’re doing business work or schoolwork, the battery lasts for a long time. The screen colors and quality look great. The laptop isn’t too heavy, it’s the perfect weight. The camera quality also looks nice. Overall, this is a value for your money. Don’t walk, RUNNN to get this laptop if you like Dell products!

Overall Rating: Excellent
Pros: Display: The 16-inch 16:10 2.5K display is stunning, offering sharp, vibrant visuals with excellent color accuracy and ample screen real estate for multitasking or creative work. The taller aspect ratio enhances productivity. Performance: Powered by the Intel Core i7-13620H processor, the laptop delivers snappy performance suitable for demanding workloads, including multitasking and content creation. Memory and Storage: With 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and a spacious 1TB SSD, the device ensures fast app performance and plenty of room for storing files, making it ideal for both work and leisure. Build Quality: The Ice Blue finish looks sleek and professional, while the overall build feels solid and premium. Service Package: The included Onsite & Migrate Service adds convenience and peace of mind, particularly during setup or in case of issues. Windows 11 Home: Pre-installed Windows 11 Home enhances usability with its modern interface and features optimized for productivity. Cons: Graphics: While the Intel UHD Graphics handle everyday tasks smoothly, the laptop may struggle with graphics-intensive applications or gaming, making it less suitable for professionals in fields like 3D modeling or high-end gaming. Portability: The 16-inch size, while excellent for productivity, may feel bulky for those who frequently travel or prefer a lightweight device. Ideal For: Professionals requiring a reliable, high-performance laptop for productivity tasks. Students or creative individuals who benefit from a large, high-quality display. General users looking for a premium device with ample storage and excellent build quality. Final Verdict: The Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7640 is a top-notch laptop offering a great balance of performance, display quality, and storage. Its powerful processor and RAM make it excellent for most productivity tasks, while its sleek design adds to its appeal. Despite its minor drawbacks, it provides excellent value for those who need a versatile and reliable laptop.

Excellent, once you dial in some settings
I bought this as a business laptop (which is exactly what it is), and it delivers in spades. The chassis may be plastic, but the soft-touch and nearly silent, back-lit keyboard gives this piece a nice premium feel. The screen is plenty bright and very vibrant, with bright, sharp colors, and the 16" screen is a noticeable upgrade from the basic 15.6", without feeling overly huge, like a 17" does to me. The trackpad is decent, but not my thing, so I use a mouse. The 13th Gen i7 moves everything along snappily and with no frustrating "oh, this thing is slow" regrets. It's far from slow, and accommodates a good bit of multi-tasking while still feeling crisp and unburdened, even with only 16GB of DDR5. It also is great for streaming video, and I've done it easily while working in 2 or 3 other open apps with no lag, no sweat. The only thing is that it should be obvious this is not a gaming laptop. So, without a discrete GPU, why does Dell think this can handle a 2.5K resolution at 120Hz (which was the default)? It can, as far as surfing the web maybe, but try anything that even remotely calls for GPU power and it's chop-chop city. Even the see-sawing text screen saver struggled at this setting. So, a bit of advice, drop your refresh rate down to 60Hz and you'll be good to go. TLDR; it's a business laptop, not a gaming rig...it's a web-surfing, spreadsheet, business software solution kind of piece...it's for video streaming, not graphical editing or creating...Buy it for what it is and it's a 5/5 in my book.

Satisfied Customer
I'm a Mac user through and through but I also need to have an Intel based Windows PC around for certain applications that I frequently use. My needs are not exotic and I simply needed a reliable and good-enough laptop with good build quality. I've used Dell laptops for decades in corporate settings, mostly the Latitude branded products, but also a couple of Inspirons. All of my previous Dell laptops proved to be reliable and well built for the price. None of them broke or quit working, they simply became obsolete based on the greater demands that modern operating systems and applications place on them. Some were converted to Linux machines and are still functional. Anyway, when I looked at the affordable price point, performance, screen quality for the price, and known good quality keyboard and trackpad I settled on this machine. My expectations have been completely satisfied and I find this machine to be very pleasant to use. Great keyboard and a trackpad that is very close to Apple's stellar trackpads. No complaints. Would I prefer more ports? Absolutely! Especially a dedicated power port that doesn't consume the best connectivity option the computer has. Adding an affordable and compatible Thunderbolt dock solved nearly all of my I/O port needs and it has been a very reliable combination. The only compromise is that most docks, other than Dell's branded model, fall short of meeting the full power requirements by about 20 watts. Despite some earlier warnings in the system tray, once the laptop's battery is fully charged I no longer see any warnings about the power deficiency. Everything about this Dell laptop has exceeded my expectations. It's fast, well built, has a great screen resolution for the size of the screen, and makes the best of what Windows 11 offers. I did upgrade to Windows 11 Pro because I needed Remote Desktop but the stock issue Windows 11 Home will probably satisfy most users. Knowing that I was able to purchase this model on sale is simply icing on the cake. At the very least it helped subsidize my Windows 11 Pro upgrade. If this laptop had one more USB-C port, preferably with Thunderbolt 3/USB4 or better, and came with Windows 11 Pro, it would be a 5+ star rating from me. Including Windows 11 Pro would seriously temp me to click on the 5-star rating.

Great Personal / Business Laptop
Works great, love the copilot and Microsoft 365 (bought seperately). I actually bought it used-new on prime days and saved over $300. The wider screen was worth the splurge.

Poor port design and noisy cooling
I feel pretty dumb for not noticing that the Inspiron 7640 only has one USB-C port. That’s a dealbreaker if you're using a portable USB-C monitor, because there's no way to power both the monitor and charge the laptop through a single adapter and a single cord. My last three laptops (Dell, LG, and Lenovo) all had two USB-C ports, so I didn’t even think to check. Also, the fan is loud, much louder than any of those previous machines. Returning it. Poor port design and noisy cooling make this a disappointing step back.
