It works, however it is poorly built. I am not sure how this would be able to hold a hog. We did a trial run this weekend with a small pork roast and a chicken, and the rod would not stay on the roller causing it to stop turning. We had to modify the design to keep the sides from pushing out. Raising and lowering the rod was a pain, would recommend putting some way to adjust the level without having to take off the rod and unscrew the sides (8 bolts and nuts) to adjust height. It worked, it cooked it. But only after we modified the design so the roller would keep rolling. We are supposed to be using this for our hog roast (75lb hog). Not too sure this can handle that kind of weight but we will see in a couple of weeks. It’s possible it works better with more weight but the way the sides were bowing out with under 10lbs of meat makes me wonder.

The media could not be loaded. So far the grill seems awesome, I see another review stating the bolts they received did not fit and they had to purchase some on their own, that review discouraged me at first but I decided to pull the trigger anyways, and I’m glad I did, I have not run into any issues. The instructions are basically useless but gives you a decent diagram of how it should go together, I was able to get it operating perfectly with only the supplies/parts provided in the box. My only critique would be the metal is not super thick, it is definitely solid structurally BUT the metal did end up getting red hot in some spots, had to adjust the coals as I was scared to burn a hole through! I also don’t know if I would actually trust the rated weight capacity of 176lb but I only tried a 5-10lb piece of meat so far. Other than that it definitely seems like an awesome fire pit but I’ve only used once so far. Would recommend.

The little bolts didn’t fit the wing nuts had to go get new bolts. The motor didn’t engage the spit rod had to grind the slots and slid the motor forward. Haven’t cooked on it yet will on the 6 th of July 100# pig. Other than that a gas grill is $200 or more. So it’s price is ok for it’s optional cooking features.
