So disappointed
I liked the look but the item was very brittle. I stuck wood biscuits with superglue onto the sheet. I then used a craft knife to cut around (making dragonflies) It did not cut well and though I can hide the bits that snapped off with glitter/glaze I expected more for the price. I think I can probably make something with epoxy on plastic that would do the job better. If I did something wrong please let me know and I will check out a different process.

support well-when shaping and drilling- it is a natural shell product and very brittle and fragile.
I have been restoring an antique campaign writing slope, and was all done bar replacing the missing mother of pearl keyhole escutcheon on the front. I ordered this product to cut a new escutcheon from. It is very fragile so I thought describing the process might help others who, like me, do not possess the expensive professional tools for dealing with this beautiful but brittle material. Firstly, I cut a template in thin card. Then, using a wood block with a rectangle cut out of the corner, I placed the mother of pearl sheet on it so it was fully supported except for the square I wanted to cut out which overhung the rectangular cut out. I then slowly and with gentle pressure cut the square free with an ordinary junior hacksaw. Next, the card template was glued to the square of mother of pearl, and the pattern clamped between 2 steel rulers with a mole grip so that it was supported with an edge of waste sticking out. this was filed off, and the process repeated until the whole escutcheon shape was filed out. The key hole was cut by using a drill slightly smaller than the key barrel and positioning the spot to be drilled over a slightly bigger drill hole in a wood block and drilling through very slowly ( 1 or 2 RPS) with gentle pressure. The accurate key hole shape was then carefully filed from the start hole using mini-needle files. The fit was perfect (if necessary the card can be sanded off the back) and I achieved it first attempt- so don't be frightened of trying- just careful!
