A Beautiful Tale Brilliantly Told

Of course, saw the film ages ago. Always wanted to read the story and I’m glad I did. Reading the entire history of Ennis’ and Jack’s story is more heartbreaking. It is a complete and tragic tale told very well.

Very good

I bought this book for a friend who absolutely loves it. Highly recommend checking out the buy used option as I got this book for just about $4 and it was in perfect condition. Plus it got here 10 days earlier than expected as it was meant to come in the 27th

A bittersweet love story

I have never heard of Annie Proulx or her work before Ang Lee's movie adaptation of "Brokeback Mountain". And, what is it, anyway? A long short story? A short novel? To me, it's simply a beautiful love story of two people who couldn't live happily ever after. It wasn't unrequited love at all, as we all know that Ennis and Jack REALLY loved each other, more than what you'd expect. The time and the society made it impossible for this two guys in love end up together, and Jack did proposed it! But there's not enough room for two gay / bi guys to have a life together in the world where this story develops. We all want to be loved. We all have the need to be held and feel like someone actually cares for us. And that's what we should look for and hold tight to it when we find it, even if it's going against what people think. They won't be the ones wiping your tears or holding you at night. Ennis and Jack are just the representation of many, MANY couples who have gone through the same and didn't have the happy ending. That's the stuff art of made of, whether it's a movie, a song, a painting...Love inspires, but when you can't be with the one you want... That's a force that can change the world. I loved how the author portrayed this wonderful love story, the poetry in her words and the way she chose to tell it makes you stay until the end, refusing to let go and crying with the end. And, by the way, that "I wish I knew how to quit you" is from here. Amazing film adaptation. And the audiobook read by Campbell Scott is fabulous.

Loved the movie and the book

I lived in Wyoming for two years from 1968 to 1970. It was where I realized I was gay. This book and movie hit home on many levels.

I’m depressed now.

Amazing book, I hate how sad it is and I hope that the author’s pillows are cold on both sides

Eh

late in coming, very yellowed paperback. It is legible and the pages are all tight in the binding.

Bittersweet Love

Phenomenal book. Read it as soon as I got it from my college mail center and was trying not to cry in front of everybody. Not for the weak.
