Specs King! 👑
The Asus ROG Ally X is a beast of a handheld. There's absolutely nothing in market in the handheld segment that can rival this. With 24GB RAM - you can allocate upto 16GB RAM to VRAM (I prefer a 16-8 or a 14-10 split) unlike the Legion Go, MSI Claw or the Steamdeck that caps out at 16GB RAM. [If you can't deal with a LCD display then go for the Steamdeck OLED or if you want the biggest display then go for the Legion GO - otherwise there isn't a single reason to not go with the Ally X] I have run Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, EA FC 2025, Star Wars Fallen Order & Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy so far - after a bit of tinkering with the graphics settings - nothing has looked out of place. (But don't compare it to a laptop performance let alone with a Desktop - because this isn't meant to run better than those rather to be used on the go primarily) Battery has been decent with the unit I received - approx 1 hours 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes (100 to 0). I had 33% RGB on the thumbsticks, you can completely switch it off to get a few minutes more. Run 13w Silent mode until you start the game. Afterwards switch to 17w Performance mode or 25w Turbo depending on your choice. The 30w plugged in - is what I usually game on when playing CP2077. If you pick the Ally X make sure to check Windows Update, My Asus, AMD software, Armory Crate for updates every few days. Cheers 🍻

It's a powerhouse
Let's get cons out first: 1. Yes, it's pricey, if you're comparing it with non-handheld consoles. Among handhelds, there's no comparison. 2. Feels a little awkward in bigger hands. Now the best part: 1. It's damn powerful for what it is, imagine running cyberpunk with medium or high texture and still get above 60fps. 2. Even when not on charge, it still goes to 25w tdp, which gives you enough power to run all the games, with ofcourse on the expense of battery life. 3. It's still windows, so can be used as daily driver.

Great product
It has been a few weeks since I bought it and it works great. UI is super intuitive (for the fact that it runs on windows), but armory crate is a one stop shelf for all the games just one button press away. To be honest its designed for gamers.

Great device but not worth the price
Device is great it’s like having a powerful laptop in a small form factor. But had to sell my kidney to buy it so doesn’t worth it.

Reminds me of my Nintendo GameBoy days...
Great device overall, few things - the rumble/vibration could have been better, it feels like a smartphone from 2015, the grips could have been more ergonomic, the display bezels could have been improved like Valve did for Steam Deck OLED. Performance is more like a GTX 1660 but with modern creature comforts like AI upscaling and frame generation. 24GB ram is great as I have allocated 16GB to the GPU (although that doesn't affect in frame rates, only for games that won't otherwise run due to VRAM issues). Having 1TB as default is a good starter for someone new to handhelds but you can go upto 4TB internally (it also uses standard full size 2230 M.2 SSD). Most games should run fine on Performance mode (17W) and I'd recommend turning on CPU boost only for really CPU intensive games otherwise keep it off for dramatically better battery life. Lastly, performance won't blow anyone's socks off, novelty is being able to play AAA games portably at all. So I am grateful for that. A bit overpriced, it shouldn't be more than 40k-45k with the build quality as per my opinion. NOTE: These don't have hall effect anything, but Asus claims better durability than white Ally. Also SD card burn is apparently fixed. Cheers.

A great mobile gaming alternative for PC gamers
TL;DR Review + Literally a more compact gaming laptop with controller attached on the side + Packing very good specs for it's form factor + Ran and tested the following games: Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel's Spider-Man, The Witcher 3, Deadspace Remake, Days Gone, Elden Ring, GTA V, NFS Payback, Burnout Paradise, Genshin Impact, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 Remake etc - They all work sufficiently well on high graphics settings; exceptions - Cyberpunk 2077, Spider-Man and Deadspace Remake on low~medium settings with FSR on auto gives a fine experience. But again, for a 7-inch screen, you won't notice changes in fidelity unless you're doing a case study on the device. + Just like a laptop running on battery, the trade off is between framerate and battery-life. + All in all, in my experience as per my usage, it's a great extension to your pc gaming. If you have to travel a lot and have to stay away from your main gaming pc, this works as a great mini-pc that you can carry wherever you go. Say you're playing Cyberpunk (Steam/Epic/GOG) on your pc, now you have to go to a friend's place/relatives' place for a couple of days, if you have Cyberpunk downloaded on your Ally X from the same client as your PC (Steam/Epic/GOG), thanks to their cloud saves you can carryover your save progress from home pc and continue playing Cyberpunk on your Ally X while at this other place, away from your pc. I love it and definitely recommend it to on-the-go gamers. Cheers and happy hunting!
