I just got my first order of Theanine from this specific seller (BulkSupplements) and am very happy with what I got. I use L-Theanine for mental function and I combine it with caffeine. I find it is useful in helping me focus and that with a larger dosage of caffeine (especially caffeine from guarana extract) that the effects are very pronounced. I can stay on track of tasks, sharply focus, and especially feel I work better with numbers. As all of our bodies are different and the same medication has different outcomes with different people, I cannot say if Theanine will be effective for you or not when used for this purpose. With that said, the User reviews here (and elsewhere) show that there is a pretty sizable chunk of people who have had luck using Theanine (combined with caffeine) for improved mental function. In terms of the science behind L-Theanine, the research is varied and not nearly as vast as many other supplements used for improved mental functioning. Some research has suggested Theanine has some degree of usefulness for anxiety, hyperactivity, sleep, the immune system, and mental performance. I use the word "some" because the results of clinical research has varied. Given how the same drug will affect different people in a different manner, this isn't all that surprising to see a limited number of controlled trials yield variable findings. With that said, User reviews show that Theanine has been extremely successful for some people (myself included) and so I think this is a supplement that holds potential value. Note that most of the studies which have found beneficial effects for reaction time and memory have also utilized caffeine alongside Theanine, as these two drugs seem to have synergistic effects in potentiating each other. I do not personally get any notable benefit from Theanine without simultaneous usage of caffeine. In terms of safety, I think it is always important to be aware of what goes in the body, and to be sure that what goes in our bodies come from trustable and respectable suppliers. Another Reviewer asked the question of 'how can one know they are getting real Theanine?' It's a fair question, and this is how I went about answering that question...In terms of 'knowing' if it is Theanine, I know because the difference for me is tremendous and very pronounced: for me, it takes the stimulant side of caffeine and somehow funnels it into mental sharpness. Caffeine alone does not do this, nor has any other supplement I have used for improved mental function. In terms of knowing if the product is safe and pure, I spent some time looking at different suppliers and reviews for their company and for the products they sell. I feel that this company, Bulk Supplements, has one of the best reputations on all of Amazon. Their general transaction feedback is excellent (like 99% positive), and virtually every product they sell has outstanding reviews. These thousands of stellar reviews made me feel that Bulk Supplements was a great choice to go with, and now having the product I can say I am very happy with what they sent me. So I am not sure if that is beneficial for you, but for me it was the deciding factor in buying Theanine from Bulk Supplements over other companies. I will certainly be purchasing from them in the future and I highly recommend them as a company to buy from. This Theanine (and other supplements in bulk) go along really well with a scale and a machine for making pills. As this comes in bulk powder, dosing quantity using a scoop is not the most reliable means and being able to weigh the dose is a much more consistent route. I purchased an AMW scale a few years ago for under ten bucks, so a decent-quality scale can be had for a very low price. I also own the Capsule Machine which I use to make capsules from bulk powder supplements. While there are tons of different makers producing those kinds of products, I figured I would mention those two as I purchased both on Amazon and can say first-hand that I am very happy with each. Having this scale and capsule machine makes using supplements much easier for me. So overall, I have had really good results with Theanine, and I am very happy with the Theanine that Bulk Supplements delivered on. While I cannot say if Theanine will be helpful for you or not, I can say that this is a Seller with good-quality Theanine in a pure form, and for a very reasonable price.

After much research, I decided to try this for insomnia (from injury related pain) and also for Mild GAD. When dosed correctly it does the trick and I can sleep soundly minus the heavy-duty pain killers, and wake up refreshed in the morning. I also feel much calmer and more focused on the correct dose. The taste is not bad at all and I don't mind dumping it directly into my mouth. It is a little clumpy and doesn't mix xo well in water, though I just swish some more in the cup and rinse the last bits into my mouth. It mixes great into a smoothie. Minus one star because the dose is 1/16 tbsp, it doesn't come with a scoop (I would rather pay a few pennies more to have one- they are cheap!) and since the smallest standard measuring spoon is 1/8 tsp, I have been doing a LOT of guessing. I know when I get too much too because it makes me desperate for a nap, or I almost feel like my blood pressure is low (dizzy when I first stand up). Since this stuff actually DOES work, I would like more accurate dosage instructions!

I purchased L-Theanine to go with my BulkSupplement Caffeine powder. At first, I was a little skeptical purchasing from a company I've never heard of, let alone in pure powder form. Needless to say my experience has been great. I will break down exactly how I use L-Theanine (as well as quantity) in conjunction with Caffeine powder. First, let me tell why I use those two supplements. I have had problems with concentration and anxiety most of my life and I was tired of being prescribed medications that came with a laundry list of negative side-effects. So, I started doing some research and came across this wonderful substance called L-Theanine. L-Theanine is an amino acid and a glutamic acid analog primarily found in tea (Camellia sinensis), and also in the basidiomycete mushroom Boletus badius and in guayusa. The L-enantiomer is the form which is found in tea and used as a supplement by humans. So, what does this mean? Well, in short Theanine has been studied for its potential ability to reduce mental and physical stress, improve cognition, and boost mood and cognitive performance in a synergistic manner with caffeine. That is why I purchased the caffeine powder, however that review is for another time. Consumption: I mix 100 milligrams (get yourself a milligram sensitive scale, especially if you are going to be toying around with the more dangerous compounds such as caffeine; seriously folks, this is not a toy and should be treated with respect) with my green tea in the morning for, in my opinion, the best effects. Results: About an hour (6:00 A.M.) after I drink my green tea/L-Theanine/Caffeine mix I start to get a very calm, yet focused feeling that lasts until lunch time (12:00 P.M.). At that time I make myself another green tea with 100 milligrams of L-Theanine and 100 milligrams of caffeine for my afternoon boost. Now, this lasts me until about 5:30-6:00 which is perfect because I am leaving work around that time. I would highly recommend this product in conjunction with the caffeine powered for those who have a hard time focusing, or would like to cut the side-effects of ADHD medicine while getting the (albeit 100% anecdotal) same results. Now remember, like anything else you put in your body please do your OWN research and take what I have written here as some useful information to help make a decision, because that's what it is.. a review to help you decide. Well, my Amazon friends I hope this helped you make a decision on this product. But for full disclosure I will let you know I am getting a free product for this review. Now, don't be swayed by this.. I would have purchased L-Theanine anyway, I'm just glad I did from BulkSupplements. The packaging is nice, the customer service is great and the price is unbeatable. In conclusion I am very happy with not only my L-Theanine, but with BulkSupplements. It's nice to see a company be so prompt and kind to their customers.

I'm a programmer. I have found that energy drinks were super-effective at making me a coding demon. I'm fairly sure the majority of that was caffeine, but no matter how many caffeine pills or coffee I took, the focus on them was not *as good* as from energy drinks. And I'd like to cut down on my caffeine. So I decided to try the ingredients in isolation. This one *feels* like it improves my focus. I bought the smallest pack, to try it out, but it looks like it'll be lasting me some time. I take an eighth of a teaspoon each morning. Does it genuinely work? I cannot say for sure. Perhaps my feeling of improved focus at work comes from improved mood and my newfound determination to be good at it. Perhaps its my improved diet. Perhaps it's that I got moved to a more fun project. Perhaps I'm not truly being better at work. It's hard to measure, since I changed a number of things in my life at the same time. But it feels as effective as an energy drink, minus the caffeine. I ordered this on a lazy Saturday afternoon with a bunch of other things from different sellers, choosing the cheapest shipping. The next day, in the morning, there was a knock at the door, and a USPS lady was there, delivering the package. I didn't even know the USPS *did* Sunday deliveries. I think there may have been a mix-up, and they put me in the expedited shipping list instead. In which case: their expedited shipping, at least, is *fast* :D In terms of purity... the theanine powder is white, not fluorescently so, but the usual pure white of powdered sugar or flour. It behaves unlike any common powder I've encountered before (cornstarch, flour, powdered sugar, their own taurine powder). It clumps in small rounded clumps, and the clumps float on the surface tension of the water, but dissolve quickly and completely once you get them past the surface tension. I've found a few drops of vodka makes it dissolve much more easily, probably by having a lower surface tension. It dissolves without making the dissolving liquid cloudy, and without (as you get with, say, sugar) any undissolved grains at the bottom of the glass. It tastes slightly sweet. It seems homogenous; if there are impurities, the impurities behave in the exact same way as the rest of the powder, not leaving any impurities that dissolve at a different rate, have different sized grains, cloud the water, or whatever. I'm no chemist, but it seems reasonably pure and effective to me. I think I'll be buying again. Even if it's a placebo, the placebo has made a significant change in my focus, and hence my mood. That's worth paying for.

Too soon too know for sure, but so far so good. I'm trying this in the hopes it will help with my TMJ - which I understand might be a lot to wish for. But if this is supposed to help with tension, anxiety, etc, then I'm hoping that by extension it will help with TMJ as well. Since they say that stress is what causes clenching at night. We'll see. I will say that it did help my dog the other night during a thunderstorm! That alone give me some hope that this stuff lives up to it's reputation. :) I do feel a little silly now that I've purchased it at this price, though. I just noticed that I could have purchased twice as much (100 grams instead of 50 grams) for only two dollars more from the same seller if I had been more careful in my selection. The huge pricing discrepancy sits a little odd with me, which is why I'm removing one star. The package also has a warning on the top that say do not take it if you are on blood pressure medication. I think this warning should be in the product description since so many of us are on blood pressure medications. If I were ordering this just for me, I probably wouldn't have purchased it because of that since I am on two different blood pressure meds! This information would have been nice to have before ordering. Hopefully they will add it at some point.
