I’ve used this paint several times over the last 5 years on a kitchen island, raw unpainted wood, and on cabinets that had existing varnish. Covered well on both. No sanding, or very little just to sand off imperfections, on the varnished wood before painting. I have topped with the clear coat, adding shine and bringing out the texture, but prefer the look without the top coat personally. The only problem with the paint without the top coat is that it picks up fingerprints and water spots. Just be mindful if you’re painting something that will be touched regularly. It cleans up nicely with a slightly damp cloth. I keep extra paint on hand for any touch ups through the years.

I bought two containers of the Rocky Mountain color to paint my son's small dresser. The paint color matched how it showed in the description. Beautiful, classy dark gray. I consider myself a veteran at painting furniture as I do this as a hobby and people occasionally bring me their own stuff to paint. This was my first time ordering this particular brand. 1st coat was easy to apply and I could instantly tell I would love it. I waited a full 24 hours before I applied coat #2. Again, color was beautiful and I was getting even more excited. I waited another 24 hours before I went to reassemble the dresser and while I was adding the new hardware to the drawers, I scratched it. The paint literally came right off. I couldnt believe it. I took my finger nail and lightly "scratched" one time in another spot to see what would happen and again. Straight through to where I could see the original wood. The paint was under my nail after 24 hours (was technically 32 hours) I immediately went to the hardware store to buy my go to finishing wax which I wasnt prepared to do as this claims no wax is needed. Came home decided to try another coat. Then a 4th coat. Same results. The dresser really looks gorgeous but the durability is very disappointing. I used both containers on something that should have taken less than one and have still warned my son to place anything hard on the dresser. Too upset to repaint it at this time. I had to hop back on to see if anyone else had this issue in the reviews as the original reviews I read all raved about this. I noticed other people mentioned the same thing as I did. I'm not sure if it's possible I received two "bad batches" or if that's even a thing. I'm just at a loss as to what went wrong as I have never had this happen.

I'm relatively new to furniture refinishing but I have used quite a few paints so far. After reading some of the reviews I was pretty reluctant to make this purchase, but boy am I glad I did. This is by far my favorite paint to use. It spreads super easy and levels so much better than most expensive chalk paints. I did mix my small amount of paint that I needed out of the jar with about a tablespoon of water to help reduce paint lines. As with any paints and refinishing, just be sure to prep your piece properly. Definitely give it a try!

Love this paint . Goes on thick and is easy to work with . As I learned , buy a much bigger jar then you think or your stuck waiting for a new one to arrive .
