Transformers One

Definitely more than meets the eye
This movie is SO UNDER RATED and had an awful marketing. Deserves SO MUCH better.I definitely was not a transformers fan but started watching the original 1984 transformers series, around Feb 2024, it was goofy and funny BUT the characters had more depth than the Michael Bay movies. This movie it's what the franchise needed, TO ACTUALLY HAVE TRANSFORMERS AS THE MAIN CHARACTERS. The storytelling is great, the action it's amazing and definitely CHILLING scenes, gruesome and just epicness. It's one of the best animated movies of 2024 and one of the greatest if not the best movie of the Transformers franchise. It's perfect not only for tranformers fans but also for the general audience. This steelbook itself it's great, they did put an effort on the art for this one and the metalic finish on the colors it's beautiful. The image quality it's amazing and THE SOUND.....just incredible, they did work on this movie for it to sound majestic. The ONLY negative thing that i could add it's that it doesn't come with spanish subtitles or audio, tbh i don't mind the audio, but not even subtitles? Thought was weird given that this is a European edition. All that asideSteelbook: 10/10Audio: 10/10Movie: 20/10This is a must buy specially if you are into collecting movies.

A long time ago on a metal planet far far away
Transformers are after my time childhood wise. I only got into the franchise when I saw the trailer for the first live action film in 2007. Thought that looks like my kind of thing. And I loved it. I also knew there and then that Optimus Prime is the best character of the lot. Peter Cullen has the greatest voice ever.I then spent years hoping the following films would measure up to the original. Almost at times. But never quite. Now though comes an animated prequel to the whole thing. The apparently previously untold story of how they all came to be.When I first saw the trailer for this I thought the animation and the voiceovers made it look firmly aimed at the under tens. So I was going to pass. I then saw it get nothing but good reviews. So I decided to give it a try...Quick opening exposition narration fills you in on this planet where robots live underground. Their robot god created the place. Bad things happened. Some robots can transform. Some miner ones can't. Benevolent leader Sentinel Prime, the last of the prime robots, is searching above ground for the mcguffin of the movie. This is well handled because I think anyone who had no experience of the franchise before could easily get it and get into it. Just from that part.We then meet two miner droids. Orion Pax [Chris Hemsworth]. And his best friend D16 [Brian Tyree Henry]. The former is humorous, unfailingly optimistic, and always trying to improve his life. The latter gets him out of trouble. He can't get irked with Orion, though. They're such good friends that they'll be that way for life and nothing will ever come between them and drive them apart leaving them opposed forever. Or so it would seem. The animation is really pretty good. Especially the backgrounds. There are times when the scale of things does make the droids look a bit too small. That was my only issue though. The trailer did not do it justice. The first half of this is intriguing and holds the attention. And Orion's humour does drop away as things develop. There is clearly a bigger story going on, and it had me hooked wanting answers.Second half gets to that. It then really clicks and goes up a level. There's one amazing moment when you realise how well Orion works as a character. I really didn't see it coming. He and D16 both do get very good story arcs indeed that allow them to grow and change. There are things that I am sure fans will appreciate continuity wise. It didn't hurt me at all not knowing them though. Not a spoiler to say there is a big battle at a point. When that happens though you know who all the characters are. You care about them. And you can tell exactly what is going on.The way it wraps things up are scenes I would imagine fans will be pleased by. It does manage some emotional heft with it.This is really good. Glad I gave it a chance. Level of violence makes it a pg certificate. Also be aware of a couple of scenes that those bothered by flashing lights will have a problem with. Really glad I did give it a go though. More animated ones might be a good way forward for the franchise. So here's hoping. One extra scene very early in the end credits. You have to stay for this. It's great. One after the very end. Not as essential. But still good. The dvd does begin with a brief logo screen which you have to let play out.The language and subtitle options are:Languages: English. French. Italian. Dutch.Subtitles: English. French. Italian. Dutch. And there are some extras. A rare thing on dvds of later. Three nine min long featurettes. In the beginning. About the genesis of the project and the story.World building on Cybertron. About the world design.Together as one. About the characters and their design. These are all comprehensive and have interesting interviews, so are worth a look.

Finally!
Growing up in the 80s and reading the original marvel yearly annuals from Transformers there were so many amazing shorts that could have been!TheTransformers The Movie from the ,80s holds it's own today. The bay versions had their charm , mainly the 1st and 3rd .Bumblebee was great and that snippet from the start was what so many of us hoped for ,....stillThis as movies go is great , it's a bit like TMNT mutant mayhem, follows the characters we know but it's a refreshing take on them and it works .The disc itself is definitely worth having in your collection! With bith Dolby vision and Atmos ,visuals look crystal clear and luxurious as colour spills from every scene , plenty of detail on surfaces and character designThe Atmos track is well programmed with lots of overheads and little sounds all around you in most scenes.A great family film with a well thought out storyline and cast portraying the characters we all grew up with. It's a great family film !
