This compact dvd reader/ writer may not have the same speed capabilities of the larger built-in readers but it’s cheap, has a solid data transfer rate via usb 3.1 and is very handy to have tucked away ready for use when needed because modern day pc cases tend not to have room for built-in blu-ray/dvd players any more. If you use dvds regularly, this will do the trick, but I’d probably look round for better read/write speeds from a top supplier but it will cost you a whole lot more money. If an occasional user or very patient then this is a solid solution.

bit flimsy, but bare in mind it's and external drive, so if it needs to travel with you you want lightweight, it's doing the job perfect and easy connected, love the extra read for a harddrive, never seen them before, OK you're drive need to match the slot but it's ideal, it looks classy and has everything included

IS it really just plug and go?
Good quality at a fair price, but the listing for just plug and go is misleading. It was not that simple with my HP laptop. It does not require drivers, but is does require the correct dvd playback software to be already downloaded onto your system. However, the accompanying instruction booklet is very useful and has links for online tech support. It now is compatable for my system and plays well, although not every dvd.

May not work with all disc brands - try TDK.
This would read a CD but it would not write a Verbatim from a new pack (I tried two). I arranged to send it back but then tried a TDK from an older pack and it worked so I cancelled the return. Should be good with SATA SSDs but have not tried that yet. All these small USB drives feel very flimsy but do the job - at least for a while. At least this one has other useful connectivity if the CD writing is not perfect so worth giving it a longer trial. Very cheap so not risking much.
