The Besties Ken doll has an excellently appealing visual aesthetic and is well-made. I am impressed, as are my kids: Besties Ken made for a SUPER gift. He would be a fine addition to any collection held by child ranging to adult, (esp. as the are no other male dolls in the Besties line, nor any other teen versions of Ken in the Barbie Universe at all, AFAIK - making this doll totally unique). The hairstyle is very fashionable and is modeled in the real world by children and adults alike. There are strands on the top for the longer length and the clipped sides are vinyl-painted. The longer strands are held in place by glue. It has a new style of M2M (Made-to-Move) body form that, as far as I understand, was designed new just for this doll. The head rotates on a ball and has articulation at the hip-socket leg joints, knees, wrists, elbows and shoulders. There is NO articulation at mid-back, waist or ankles. To my understanding, this is an all-new design of head & face, too, though my sons pointed out a striking similarity to the Mattel's "Creatable World" blonde child doll, who they are using as a younger sibling to their Besties Kens as a result. The visual comparison is as direct as between blonde versions of Stacey & Skipper or between the Black version of Babysitter Skipper & Brooklyn or Fashionistas Barbie #216: instant connection. I actually have bought 2 of this Besties Ken Doll, as my twin sons were very taken with him upon sight - even the boy who normally ignores the dolls, but who enjoys the various Barbie franchise TV series. Both boys were extremely pleased to receive their school and greatly enjoyed every step from admiring the packaging, doing the work to bring the doll & its accessories out, coming up with their own names, proposing different aspects to the dolls' personalities & lives, then immediately heading to the rest of the dolls to introduce a story. The twins are so attached to the twin Besties Kens that all 4 are watching their favorite show together. The boy was "isn't into dolls" giddily has declared that it is his mini version. Representation really does matter! The accessories were very difficult for both the children and myself to free from their packaging, as: 1) I didn't know how strong to expect their plastic to be. 2) They are held in place sturdily by very strong packaging. The tall water mug was the most difficult to remove. Have confidence that it is okay to push with some force to get that piece out, since you will need it! Note that the cross-body bag doesn't open - it is for looks - so you might wish to buy or sew a backpack, (try the search term: "keychain coin purse miniature backpack"). Fabulous value for the money spent. You will not be sorry to have ordered this item. I might even buy a 3rd.
