The Essays of Henry D. Thoreau

My son needed this for a course the semester and the bookstore was back ordered. This arrived in less than a week and was just what we needed.

I have enjoyed this book to it's fullest degree. I have always been a Thoreau fan, and frequently come back to this book. I am never alone when reading it. I transpose myself into nature on the coldest of days. When I wrote, " Above His Shoulders" I use many metaphors in nature to proceed through my depression and find hope.Thoreau's work has always inspired me. With the popularity on Into the Wild, thank God we saw an increase in his works. I will forever continue to seek for truth, and find solace in nature. It helped me get through my sexual abuse and treatment.

"The Resistance to Civil Government" (1849) is required reading, not just for Citizens of an emerging democracy (not a monarchy of a majority) but also all Peoples of the World. That "Government that governs least" might mean more is more is the essence I adore & hope one day to see.

One thing that I have found with the kindle text is that the electronic formatting often displays words disjointed. For example, a word within a sentence may look something like th-is or perhaps even something like this.(Spacing for example)Wouldn't mind having more notes within the text (much better than end notes).

This book was required for a graduated school class. It was shipped quickly and the book itself was in good condition. Great to work with this company. I have ordered many books from them before and am always pleased.However, the package Better World Books shipped this in was DECIMATED and almost ripped open in the mail. It was in a plastic sealed bag that was ripped open down the side. I think the post office put rubber bands around it, but it's lucky the books weren't damaged. I'm pleased with the book but disappointed with the shipping method.

Excellent. The introduction by Lewis Hyde is superb as is the book's design and editing.
