Painting with Bob Ross: Learn to paint in oil step by step!

If you’re just starting out this is a great book for tips. Wonderful pictures and easy to follow. The book itself is pretty sturdy.

My son absolutely loves this book !

Bob Ross's technique, as performed on his shows that ran for years and STILL run years after his death, are absolutely marvelous entertainment. After decades of doing nothing with my latent art talent, I decided to take up oil painting. Before I could even research it, my daughter bought me a beginner easel, set of oil paints, palette, and a small canvas. However, after my purchase of the Bob Ross book, I researched the styles of oil painting, and the style that reflected EXACTLY what I have pictured in my mind -- the style knows as impasto, simply put, a form of more abstract impressionist painting. Bob Ross's sole style is alla prima -- a wet background with HAVING to paint continuously. Since I'm disabled and never know from hour to hour whether I can sit, hat style, while beautiful, cannot be for me. Having said that, his book IS very readable, and there are numerous examples of paintings and the progression of adding elements, even taking advantage of what he called "happy mistakes." The style just doesn't fit with me, and I wish that it was the generalist introduction to ALL oil painting styles I'd hoped for.

This is a good book and teach you a lot of things

My wife is an excellent artist! However she still loved watching him work! I ordered her a pretty nice large set of acrylic paints with this book. She wants me to now her her his oil paint collection. This girl can take regular cans of spray paint and and a poster board and in 10 minutes spray paint you the most beautiful mountains you've ever seen! But she has to have this very nice book I must say along with the paints & brushs like he used.

I've been painting for most of my life (oils and acrylics). Bought this for inspiration on doing some landscapes. Someone said the instructions are all in black and white, but in my copy they're in color. I'm glad I bought it. Love Bob Ross and look forward to do some of his lessons.

The bob ross book is very informative well put together very helpful as well is his videos both well worth the money

If you've ever thought of becoming an artist weather as a hobby or a career this book is a great starting point for those who've never picked up a brush before. Highly recommend this for the beginner artist.

amazing book for anybody wanting to try the wet in wet technique . I myself used it in water colour paintings of subjects like flowers, but never in acrylic or other media. This book is a very reasonable price, that includes an awful lot of brilliant instructions text and photos, and project paintings that are very easy on the eye to follow. just getting my new oil paints together and other things to start. hoping for some happy times soon.:)
