Don’t know how common an issue. I use mine daily and it’s often in a top off jeep exposed to full sun in summertime. This has caused some fading but not an issue for me as I think it enhances the appearance.

Q: Is this bag water proof/resistant?

Water actually spots the bag but they come out of overtime and it creates an interesting patina I have never been in a downpour with the bag but the rain never got into the bag carrying it over my shoulder

Q: Is there a version of this bag for 17" laptop?

This bag is one size only. There are other bags on Amazon that will accommodate 17” laptop.
