Great game, SNK continues on an upwards trajectory in quality. Gameplay is deep with plenty of mechanics to master from basics to more complex feints and breaks, characters with a lot of playstyles, a smart control system mimicking Street Fighter 6's modern control scheme to help those who aren't as acquainted with fighting games. Netcode is really good, I have had matches quickly and they've all been stable, at worst some minor stuttering in the beginning of some fights.As far as negatives go, I'd say the new Episodes of South Town mode is quite simple with its light RPG mechanics, no allocation of stats and no voiced dialogue in these sections. Fights feel fairly simple, with the advantage or disadvantage being mainly your level, they could have used this to help players learn the mechanics at a deeper level. Same for the tutorials, it teaches the mechanics but omit some simple things such as rolling out on knockdown or some more involved lessons for certain situations.But regardless of those negatives, the inclusion of colour edit is a welcoming addition it also includes patterns for larger clothing items, which allows you to make your favourite character visually distinct or as silly as you'd like, jukebox has tons of options from songs from the entire franchise and others along with a surprising amount of songs by famous DJs. While simple in presentation, with still panels with voice overs, arcade mode is satisfying in presenting your character's motives and the endings are good (so far) which could have been phoned in especially considering this is a story that laid dormant without continuation for the last 26 years. EOST mode also has some great lore giving South Town more of a history of its own and simultaneously acknowledging events from Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury. Not to mention there are lots of cameos from both franchises peppered into the backgrounds, from Lee looking out a window, Eiji in one of train cars, the UFO from Metal Slug flying by, SNK fans like myself will have plenty to look out for.And as an added bonus SNK is giving away the 1st season pass for those who got this at launch.Provided SNK does the right moves supporting this game, I'd say they've got a game that will hold its own against the big names in the genre. And the special edition comes with the soundtrack, a nice reversible poster and some stickers. Simple, but a nice package nonetheless.
