I got these to re-plumb a new pool pump. Although the pump came with two unions, to use them or a conventional threaded fitting would have required a MAJOR re-piping of several valves due to close tolerances. These were compact enough to minimize the re-plumbing effort. I hand tightened these fittings as much as possible, and used no teflon tape (ok, I admit I forgot about the teflon tape.) I expected some initial leakage, figuring I would have to make some adjustments. Nope, neither fitting leaked a drop. Gotta love it.

This fits perfectly. Overall, the rubber appears to be of extremely high quality, and the lead is quite practical. This is holding, and there is no further leakage at all. This is a fantastic rock that is really simple to use and install, with clear instructions for everyone.
